Breakfast is at around 7:30, usually just cereal or toast.
Then a fruit snack at around 10:00
Lunch is usually a sandwich, fruit and veg and a yoghurt.
Then usually another snack depending on what’s in the cupboard at around 3:00
Then dinner at 5:00
Bed at 7

Mine would eat all day if I let him!
On nursery days (mon-thurs) he has breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, tea, second tea, and supper!
That’s been his routine with food since he started at 7 months, and he’s almost 2!
He loves his food, eats everything and is still built like a rake so we let him crack on.

I started a thread like this awhile ago haha. My DD is 17 months but has been on the same kind of routine for a few months. She is in nursery 3 days a week tho and they have different routine, but ours is:
-Wake varies but is usually between 7 and 8am, she has 5oz milk in a sippy cup followed by breakfast with water.

  • Sometimes she has a small snack around 10 or 10.30am but not always. It depends how much breakfast she has eaten and what time she had it.
  • Lunch is usually around 12/12.30 with water.
  • Afternoon snack somewhere between 3 and 4pm.
  • Dinner between 5.30 and 6pm.
  • 5oz milk in a sippy bottle (but often drinks less) around 6.30pm.
  • Bed around 7/7.15pm.

My DD asks me if she wants food now though, has done so for the last month or so. Which is A LOT if we are at home, think that's often just boredom. She also only started walking a few weeks ago and seems to be asking for food more often since then too so I think it is because of burning a lot of energy practising that.

This sounds insane written down - my 2.5yo is very tall and skinny and only travels at a sprint so he’s always starving. He was at nursery today, and he has had:
7am - first breakfast at home: Slice of toast and marmite, banana, cup of milk
8am - second breakfast at nursery: scrambled eggs on toast, cup of milk
10:30am - crackers with cheese, carrot sticks
12pm - 6 salmon fish fingers, 2 servings of mashed potato, peas and green beans, 2 bowls of fruit salad
3pm - cucumber sticks, grapes, rice cakes
5pm - 2 ham, cheese and salad rolls, cherry tomatoes, rice pudding
6pm - at home- bag of toddler crisps, homemade low sugar gingerbread man, banana
7pm - cup of milk

This is why I'm worried he's not eating enough, he's happy enough, growing right, in the right size clothes so I know it's irrational worry...!

He's not a big eater at all really.

For breakfast at 9.30 he will have about 6 blueberries halved, and a whole weetabix, or sachet of porridge.

Lunch at 12.30/1. He has 1 Jacobs cracker, some more fruit, maybe some toddler crisps, and a yogurt.

Afternoon snack 3ish - I've just started this with 5oz of milk or so, he will have some baby rice cakes, or a toddler oat bar/raisins.

Tea - whatever we have, an smallish medium bowl... chilli, chicken chasseur, fish pie, curry etc. Baby led.

Bedtime he has an 8oz bottle.
Water with all meals and throughout the day too.

TooMinty · 22/11/2019 21:55

At that age we did milk, breakfast, snack & milk, lunch, nap, snack & milk, tea, supper, milk bed.

I think they need a lot of calories! But go with the flow, is there a grumpy time that might be helped with a snack? Mine are "hangry" so I give lots of snacks!

polkadotpixie · 22/11/2019 22:00

Mine doesn't eat anywhere near as much as some of the PPs (he's 14 months)

A typical day for us would be:

6:30am - 6oz bottle
9:00am - 1 Weetabix + 1/2 banana
12:30pm - 1 crumpet + a yogurt + blueberries
4:30pm - 1 Quorn fish finger, 2 mini potato waffles & beans + some grapes
7:30pm - 9oz bottle

He doesn't really snack, occasionally a few Pom Bears or a Digestive biscuit and drinks water throughout the day

He's never had a big appetite and we have only recently managed to get him to reliably eat 3 meals a day

Chestnutpony99 · 22/11/2019 22:06

@polkadotpixie that sounds exactly like my boy.
I mean he does eat, and he ways a varied diet, but sounds a similar amount our babies eat.

I know a lot of babies/toddlers (he's 14 months but still my baby, when did I get a toddler?!) who eat lots lots more and it makes me worry!

Try not to worry, if they are hungry they will eat. Offer food/milk regularly and don't stress if they turn it down. Some babies are hungry some are not as much. Sure you are doing fine x

Amyaaa · 22/11/2019 23:41

Thank you @toominty...
I will keep offering a variety!

Know it's ridiculous to worry, just some nights I get to myself wondering if I'm doing the right thing with him.

My 14 month old seems to have a huge appetite compared to some of these but he isn’t particularly chubby and has just started walking so burns it all off I guess.

6.30 short breastfeed
7.00 breakfast - 1.5 wheetabix/porridge made with fortified plant milk
10.30 snack - couple of savoury mini-muffins/breadsticks etc with a few raisins
11.30 lunch - will ‘share’ eat most of our food or have veggie omelette, dinner left overs, something batch cooked from freezer. Usually followed by some fruit/yoghurt.
3.00 - snack - combination of some of the following oatcakes, vegan cheese cubes, baby crisps, fruit, some toast
5.30 - dinner - either shares with us or quick pasta/something from freezer again
6.45 - breastfeed before bed and then usually one over night

He very much has a main meal at lunch AND at dinner. Nursery comment on how well he eats, he’ll usually have seconds there. He has just learnt the signs for food and more and will actively use these to tell us he’s hungry or wants more. He has suspected CMPA and we’re working through the milk ladder so he doesn’t have any milk other than the breastfeeds which are short and I think more for comfort.

MrsMaow · 23/11/2019 10:41

My 12.5 month old DD doesn’t have snacks at all, she eats (what I think is) loads for breakfast, lunch and tea. Has about 6oz milk when she wakes up, about 3oz before bed, and regular sips of water throughout the day.

She just doesn’t seem interested in snacking at all, which I’m glad about really as she’s in her high chair for about half an hour for breakfast, about an hour to eat her lunch and the same for tea so I don’t know when she’s have any time to play if she wanted snacks as well.

MeadowHay · 23/11/2019 12:05

Within the next couple of months if they are hungry they will start to tell you anyway. So if he seems happy and is growing well I would continue as you are for now. As I said, my DD is 17m and at least the last month or so she communicates if she wants food so takes a lot of the guess work out of it.

Caterina99 · 23/11/2019 14:15

Mine are 2 and 4 now, but our routine has been much the same since they were weaned

7.30ish breakfast. Cereal or toast or both and cup of milk
9.30/10ish snack. Usually apple or banana or crackers
12ish lunch. Sandwich with veg sticks, few crisps etc
1ish cup of milk
3.30ish snack. Fruit or cereal bar or crackers
5.30 dinner. Kids portion of things like spaghetti bolognaise or fish fingers and chips type meals
7ish cup of milk before bed

My kids eat loads, but are tall and active and pretty slim. My 2 year old goes through phases where she eats everything under the sun and phases where she literally eats barely anything. I think as long as they’re growing appropriately then they’re getting enough. And they’ll let you know if they’re hungry
