Three year old grabbed another child around the neck...

The nursery reported that our 3 year old grabbed another child around the neck today during a verbal altercation. I was really shocked. He’s not an aggressive boy, but has apparently been not himself all week, which then culminated in this incident. My husband and I do not have a violent relationship, he has no exposure to violence on television at home, he only watches CBeebies age appropriate stuff.

I’m just concerned because grabbing another child around the neck is quite specific to the point that he must have seen it happen somewhere before, and that could only be at nursery or preschool, and it just seems particularly aggressive.

What do other people think? Is this just normal behaviour for his age? What should I say to him, as I feel I should explore it with him?

You say ‘we don’t hurt other people and we ESPECIALLY don’t touch other people’s necks. It’s dangerous!’.

It’s a bit unusual but kids do all sorts organically. A neck hold is quite a human instinct, done in all cultures in aggression. It was probably organic.
