My ds 6 and half month old recently starting weaning, when We first started I brought the Ella's kitchen pouches just to see what he likes eg carrots, sweet potato. Now I've tried cooking just veg and fruit for him but it's like he knows I've cooked and just will not take it he completely rejects most things I cook for him any advice I'm having really bad mum guilt just giving him pouches Sad

The Ella's kitchen ones tend to be fairly fruit based (eg it'll be sweet potato, courgette, and pears but if you look on the back it's 60% pears and only a little of the veg). All kids love sweet things so once they get a taste for it it's hard to get them off it.

Just keep trying with different foods and eventually they'll try other things. Finger foods are good. Don't get too caught up in pureeing veg etc. I just tried to make my own meals healthier and gave him some of that.

Don't feel guilty for giving pouches - the internet is full of people who supposedly only gave freshly cooked organic whatever but any large supermarket will have almost an entire aisle of babyfood in jars and pouches so people are buying it. Lots of people give nothing but pouches!

Food before one is just for fun.

@babyJx, I'm in the same boat. DS is 6.5 months too and isn't interested in any purees I've made him! I'm getting guilt too about him only having the pouches, but I'm just making sure he's getting a variety and not all contain fruit. Trying finger foods too but he just looks at me like what am I supposed to do with that!!

Could it also be that he likes sucking out of the pouch (if that's how he's eating them)?
You can buy reusable pouches to fill yourself. Could be worth a try...

The pouches have a different consistency. Can you try mixing some of what you've made with some pouch?

I agree with PP then start slowly reducing the pouches in each meal. Also one of the other poses mentioned about the pouches being sweet so if you make your own make them sweet and start to reduce the sweeter parts each time, a HV mentioned this to a friend as her child would only eat yoghurts.

Have you tried finger food?
My daughter was not a fan of being spoon fed purée, but loved feeding herself and was surprisingly efficient at 6 months.

Just keep offering him normal food that you make yourself (and use the pouches sometimes when you need the convenience). Ultimately, they don't live on pouches of puree so you want him to eat real food and get used to the tastes of your usual family meals. It doesn't matter at all if he's eating much of anything at 6 months. Neither of mine ate much until 8-10 months. But then once they started eating, there was no stopping them and no fuss, because they were already used to the kinds of foods I was offering. It just doesn't happen overnight.

Depending on type of weaning you ate doing remember it can take 20 plus times for babe to like a food :) i done blw check out baby led weaning for beginners and beyond. Real food and you get to eat your own meal and babe feeds themselves. Of course you always do your own preference

Pouches promote a sucking motion whereas finger foods or real food like blw promote to chew and eat family meals from a young age
