Learning to sit up

Just a quick question since I can't find anything on google - do your babies try catch themselves/put their arms out to save themselves when they fall from a sitting up position?

DD is 6 months and starting to sit unaided for a few minutes but when she falls over doesn't try to catch herself like I thought she would.

Google is only showing some scary search results Blush so hoping I can find some positive answers here!

Nope, but they learn soon enough. Try to make sure they wont fall into anything that shatters or point corners and they'll be fine.

Nope! I used to pop a breastfeeding pillow in a loop around them so it would break the fall and stop them banging their head as they would generally fall backwards.

Mine is sitting fairly confidently now (she’s a bit older) and still occasionally just seems to forget and fall backwards! I also use a breastfeeding cushion behind her. She does use her arms to stop herself falling forward now which she didn’t initially. Yours sounds normal!

Was getting a bit worried with everything google was saying (when will I learn not to google things?!) glad to hear it's normal

Sadly not, my DS took quite a long time to sit up and there was rather a lot of face planting! They soon learn to catch themselves

I bought my 6 month old a play nest (basically a big inflatable ring with a cover) which solves the problem! He still toppled but now face plants the ring and not the floor! Means I don't have to hover over him quite so much.
