Baby due in 9 weeks - boiler just blown!

So our first baby is due in 9 weeks, and greatly timed our boiler has just blown!

We've had three different quotes, all similar but vary slightly depending on warranty and boiler brand. We've got a combi boiler and looks like our best quote/quality is a new Worcester combi boiler with 7 years warranty, all in with installation and certification/electrician chdcks and new thermostat etc is £3600. Is this reasonable? It's obviously a must to buy and although we're gutted at the cost I guess it could have happened in 9 weeks which would've been worse...

Do you own your own house?
If so, have you got insurance? Could you possibly go through that?

Woeisme99 · 21/11/2019 18:39

Depends where you are. I paid 1700 for the same thing in South Wales. The boiler is servicing a 4 bedroom house adequately.

That price seems high - does it include scaffolding or having to redo any pipes?

We paid £5k last year, it was a too of the range boiler though. Seems average ish to me

Tbh we've had 4 quotes and they're all in that ball park, I think its because it's an oil combi boiler not just a gas boiler (from my googling they're a few grand dearer it appears!) Yes we own the house, don't really wanna got through insurance as that'll just go up then yearly... We have to have the flu outside redone because the boiler that's here now is sooo old, they're also servicing the radiators and installing thermostats which we currently don't have. We're in North Wales funnily enough!

I don’t see how you could go through the insurance, household insurance doesn’t cover new boilers.

Op I'm in North Wales too. I'd say for an oil boiler it's about right.
