Spitting out dummy

Hey, my newborn seems to want a dummy in order to settle in his basket but he is spitting it out every ten mins and then becomes upset so I have to put it back in. I don't want this cycle to continue as its so tiring!

Maybe try a different brand? They all have different teats and your baby might prefer one or find one easier to keep in his mouth?

Hel1985 · 20/11/2019 22:51

Thank you for your reply, unfortunately I have tried every single dummy in the shops, but no luck. She just won't settle unless I keep putting it back in 😔

Agree with PP. My DD was doing it for ages and it was driving me nuts but turns out the dummy was too small for her and she needed the next size up. As yours is newborn it may just be the brand. We loved the MAM ones as they come in a box you can sterilise them in which was so handy. Fingers crossed it works for you and congrats on the little one!

My advise would be to get rid of it if you can. I've replaced my 6 month old 's dummy 5 times so far tonight when he's woken crying for it. I had 3 months of reasonable sleep when he didn't need it at all over night but it's just got worse the last 3 months - he can not sleep without it now and I'm getting such little sleep purely because of the dummy falling out all night long.

We're planning to get rid of it as soon as DP has a run of days off together as it's going to be hell and I'll need his support.

Mine is 5 months and just can't seem to keep them in either.
I've tried avent, tommee tippee and mam. Luckily he doesn't look for the dummy at night. It's just the day time naps where I have to hold it in for him until he falls asleep.
Trying without it today and he has had 2 naps so far but is struggling to fall asleep for a nap now without it.

Hel1985 · 21/11/2019 23:23

@diy2019 this is exactly the same as my little girl. Shes brilliant at night and doesn't wake for it and settles well, but daytime naps are such a struggle. I have just been out and broughg the mam 6 month plus dummie and hoping they will help her tomorrow.

@Diy2019 how did your little one do on his nap without dummy in the end? Hope you managed to have some success. I have considered trying with out the dummy, but my little girl cries so much to get to sleep I always end up trying the dummy again, especially when we are out and about and looks of people starring and watching, gets me very anxious. @Hel1985
The third nap yesterday didn't go well, he found it hard to settle and any time he did he would cry again after a few minutes.
I got him up and tried him again an hour later and he went down easier.
I also bought those dummies when I was out yesterday evening, I saw the shape does change between the 0-6 months and 6+ months. I tried to see if he could keep it in bit he seems to not like the shape of it and spits it out.
Luckily he seems to have figured out he can use his thumb to settle himself this morning. He's having a nap now.
Did you try the dummies yet?

Hel1985 · 22/11/2019 21:47

@Diy2019 ah lovely glad he's settling well with his thumb 👌 my little is always trying the stuck her fingers but struggling to find her thumb yet, hoping as she gets older, she will manage better. We tried thosd dummies today but still the same situation 🙈 does your little one sleep on the go at all? Does he find that easier to drift of? My little go will struggle on the go and at home for naps..... She must just hate napping 🙈 x

Ds started like that sucking his fingers, then found the thumb so hopefully your lo will soon aswell.
No he doesn't nap well on the go either, unless his older brother is in the back of the car to hold the dummy in for him 🙈
And since he was 3 weeks old he's only had very short naps, 20 mins - 30 mins max.
We had a good day with the naps yesterday, he managed to settle himself so I will prob just go without the dummy now

Hel1985 · 23/11/2019 23:24

Good luck @Diy2019bl I hope he carrys on settle well without the dummy. I may try and get the guts to attempt no dummy. I think my may problem is where we are always on the go with my other two, I really would love her to sleep on the go, be it pushchair, car seat or in my arms so she can get some rest while I'm still meeting my other twos schedule and needs..... And without the dummy makes it feel 10 times harder xx

Have you tried the Bibs dummies? You can order them online. My DS loves them when he wouldn’t have any of the ones in the shops, they’re cherry shaped too so harder to spit out.
He’s 15 weeks now and he had the size 1’s until around 12 weeks when we swapped to size 2 but you can use size 2 from birth if you think she needs something bigger. I don’t think there’s much between them!

They also look pretty cute too Flowers
