How do I make it easier for ds?
He's 5 months old, I'm due back in a month so started leaving him at the childminders for an hour each day. He cries the whole time until I get back. My older ds wasn't like this, the new baby just seems more attached to me and clingy.
How can I make it easier for him?

Personally, I would leave him there for longer than an hour because that isn’t long enough for him to move on past his upset and to enjoy himself and enjoy the company of others, or go on little trips to the park etc or baby groups. In that one hour that’s he’s left, he’s upset for the duration and so the whole experience is negative, so every time you leave him there it just makes him anxious and distressed.

If you left him there longer so he had time to have fun and play after his initial upset, then it wouldn’t be a wholly negative experience for him and then he would probably start enjoying going when he realised he was going to have fun whilst there.

Did the childminder suggest these hourly sessions?

I would ask if he can go longer, for example 8-12?

Thanks Queen, I see what you mean. No it was my suggestion that we start with around an hour as I thought we could build it up over the next few weeks.
But what you've said makes sense and I'll give that a try.
