10 month old suddenly wont sleep at night without being held!!!

Back story, baby is 10 months. always self settled from very very young. Put down awake etc etc. Slept through from about 3 months and has reliably done 7.30 till 7 for a long time. I realise how lucky I am but I now literally dont have a clue how to settle him now he is waking with what I presume is his teeth.
Last 2 nights he has self settled at bedtime but come 12am he has woken up screaming.
Tried calpol, bonjela, drink of water (he isnt hungry) Ashton and Parsons, nothing.
He usually sucks a muslin to sleep which he kept trying to do but took one suck then was screaming which is why I'm thinking teeth.
Obviously if he couldn't suck the muslin, he couldn't get himself back to sleep so was screaming hysterically
He fell asleep in my arms and everytime I put him down he screamed. This carried on for nearly 3 hours.
Iv never had to deal with this before!!! I have no clue having always had a self settling baby. Any tips? Clues? I also have a 3 year old who thankfully wasnt woken by some miracle!
Thanks all, sorry for the long post! X

It's only been two days - it'll probably go back to normal once his teeth settle. Try anbusol, it's amazing stuff.

Oh I hope so! I genuinely dont know how people do it on little sleep. I realise I'm so lucky.
I just didnt want him to get into bad habits etc but keep being held when he has always self settled and I also cant hold him all night! X

I co-sleep when my daughter doesn't settle. Though she is normally awake by midnight if she hasn't settled in her cot.

Iv never co slept. How do I do it safely as he rolls all over the place and there are gaps between the mattress and the wall at the head end and the side. I'm worried he would get stuck down there and I wouldn't hear him

I second anbesol for teething but get the liquid stuff rather than the gel it’s easier to rub into the gums. Also not sure how you feel on nurofen? I found calpol didn’t do anything other than make my little one hyper. Have you tried putting on some soothing music in the background? We’ve only just got our little one to self settle at 21 months before this he was held to sleep each night and for naps before being put down and sometimes it could take a few hours before he gave in.

Guess I'm lucky. My LO has always rolls to take up the maximum space in the bed then stops.

I'm too worried about the gap between the bed and mattress to have him in the bed with me. Its perfect size to get wedged x
