Hello, i was wondering my son has got like a rash on his belly, few on genital area, hands and back and itches really badly over night.. ive been to the gp 3 times now and tries plenty of creams luke itch relief or aveeno etc. Nothin seems to improve it and im not sure what it is.. was wondering if any mums went thru this ? He had it since a month ago now :(

Have no experience of that but rashes are usually something that’s touched the skin or been eaten. Presumably you haven’t changed washing powder or anything. Is there anything else new about? Even at a friends house? What was he doing the day it first came up/24hrs prior? Perhaps there could be a clue there? Pals mum giving the boys a blanket to snuggle in or a sandwich or something that’s since been repeated that you don’t know about?

They look yellow headed. Are they sore at all?
I have no idea but they do look like the early stages of molloscum contagiosum. Way too many of them though.
Most likely an allergic reaction.

@Elieza only new thing around is having dogs but hes always been in contact with dogs since he was born we had dogs its just hes more around them.. only thing ive done was took him swimming and the woods/park that was abt 48 hours befire it started.. the rash it self isnt that bad but the itchiness is terrible.. itching in the head but no spots there and mostly tummy but theres spots there.. idk what to think anymore :( its driving me abit craxy as he wakes up in the night itchining too.

Could he have touched a plant in the park and scratched or touched the various areas on his body that are affected after?

I don’t know the symptoms of ‘poison ivy’ that the Americans go on about but it’s meant to be itchy. He could have brushed his hand against his tummy and then gone for a wee and that’s why the rash is on his privates?

Are antihistamines any use. Or is he too young - I don’t know if there is an minimum age to take them from.

NellyMatrass · 16/11/2019 02:12

@Elieza i was thinking the same but the poison ivy rash looks completely different but the itchiness is a sign of that.. he is on antihistamines but not really helping.. but he seffo touches things in the park

If it’s not the park I wonder if the ingredients in something you normally use for laundry or give him to eat could have changed and you wouldn’t know? I dont know what else to suggest, poor wee soul. Itching is awful. Could you wash everything that’s already clean and ready to use again without powder (sheets, three days worth of clothes) and only give him a limited amount of things to eat, chicken, potatoes, rice, toast, cereal etc and see if he gets better then gradually reintroduce foods one at a time over coming weeks and see if anything sets him off so you will know what it was that upset his system again. And gloves to be worn when you are in the park for the next week. Which is ok as it’s cold.

@Elieza ye i have tbh just in washed im hot water. And ingredients wise im nt sure.. i stopped strawberries now too as he might be esting too much of them daily maybe idk.. i just dont have a clue what it could be that causes him to itch but im thinking to get him allergy tested soon x

Wee lamb, let’s hope he’s better soon.
I got allergy tested privately. No needles. No scratches. It’s dear though. By a kinesiologist. Some mumsnetters will cry woo woo but it really worked for me.

First she lies you on the couch, holds a vial of something you can’t see over your tummy, and if you are sensitive to the contents your arm goes weak. I thought I’d had a stroke, had no idea that’s how it worked. My arm just fell down. Weird. Gave me a fright. She read the label and it was tomato.

I stopped eating all the foods she said I was sensitive to. They test for other things too and she can test your own pet hairs/feathers if you take them with you.

I think it was about £75 then so I don’t know how much it will be now. An alternative route if you have money and don’t want scratches. But I totally understand that not everyone is into that and most prefer nhs. Good luck and fingers crossed he is better tomorrow with his fresh sheets and jammies etc tonight.
