Putting baby in his own room at 6mo

I’d really like to move my baby into his own room as he turns 6mo, but worry about it.

Please put my mind at ease, or tell me to keep him with us. Smile

I think this is one where everyone does it differently and each family has to do what works best without judgement. My eldest went into his own room after 2 weeks because he was SO SO noisy like an old man snoring that I literally didn't sleep a wink. We bought an angel monitor breathing pad and a video monitor and moved him next door and I finally managed some sleep between feeds. DC2 was a silent sleeper so stayed with me til 4 months in the crib. Our house isn't big though so even in their own rooms they're only metres away.

DS went into his own room at about 5 1/2 months as I went back to work. We have a video monitor and it's all been fine (he's 11 months now). One does worry but it's okay, honestly! If you're comfortable trying it then go for it. DS has even slept through on a dozen or more occasions!!

Our daughter went into her room at 5 months. She was the worlds nosiest sleeper & I was exhausted from her keeping me awake all night even between feeds! She also was at the limit of her Snuzpod, she’s was really long & still is taller than all her girl peers!

The first night, I didn’t sleep a wink & watched the monitor constantly but after the first night, all was good. We all got more sleep. I finally got a decent 4 hour stints!

6 months is the recommended age to do it, so go ahead if you are ready! Smile

Thank you all, yes I think I’ll also be staring at the monitor for a night or two.

Mine is so quiet I wake up to check his breathing. But he’s outgrown the Next2Me crib, so time for the big boy bed and own room.

Yeah, buy a video monitor. Often they make noises but their eyes are still closed so it helps you not rush up there at every sound.

Expect to be on edge for the first week. But the bliss of getting your bedroom back! Being able to keep the light on to read! It's brilliant.

Our boy was so noisy that I couldn’t wait to get him into his room but then on the first night I stared at the monitor and looked wistfully and the empty crib! But he was fine and it was so nice to get our room back. He sleeps better too as we aren’t disturbing him.
He’s nearly 8 months now and last month we went on holiday where we were all back in the same room and I remembered how damn noisy he is haha! Definitely better in his own room.
We have a video monitor and he has a breathing monitor that clips to his nappy (OTT I know but he was premature and quite small so I worried ridiculously when we brought him home)

Can’t wait to have some personal time between 7 and 9pm 🥳
