Help vegetarian toddler meals

I have a gorgeous 2 year old and I’ve always really enjoyed cooking but at the moment I have horrendous morning sickness and the smell of mushrooms, cheese, eggs, broccoli and curry make me sick.

Unfortunately she loves all of those. Can anyone recommend some relatively simple toddler meals that I can add. I really don’t want to feed her ready meals but cracked last night and gave her one. I feel really guilty about what to make at the moment and she’s having too much pasta.

I could use those ingredients if there is a recipe that doesn’t smell too strongly while cooking.

Any wise mumsnetters have any ideas? Thanks

For a few months, as long as she gets balanced meals it doesn't really matter what they are.

Omlette and salad is quick and healthy.
Jacket potatoes are handy. If you want to increase the protein I ad a chopped up vege sausage to the beans
If you do pasta, do you finely chop a couple of handfuls of spinach and add some avocado?
Soup and crusty bread
Lentil cottage pie. Freezes well.
Egg and chips is the food of the gods. With peas or beans.
Mozarella or halloumi wraps with wedges.
Veggie English breakfast for tea?

Thank you. Sadly eggs might be off in every form as i just throw up when I smell them. I really hate this sickness.

Lentil cottage pie is a fantastic idea! She loves lentils and potatoes. I suspect there will be very little left l.

I’ll try the veggie sausage with potato too.

I tend to grate courgette with pasta and add olives spinach and avocado but I’ll mix it up a bit.

She loves soup which I hadn’t even thought of.

Thank you!

Feels like a ridiculous amount of stuff is. My
Midwifes promised to prescribe something if the sickness doesn’t start to improve soon but I’ll need to wait a week

My 3 year old loves risotto. I put whatever vegetables I have in it, do usually add cheese but you can do it without!

Thanks @DinoGreen that’s a great suggestion

Soup is always a win. Really anything you can make will be fine, it's not permanent and as long as you supply plenty of fruit/veg - crudités even. If in doubt add a pulse, I often put chickpeas, buyer beans etc through pasta or rice for address protein.

Falafel of you can stand the smell could be an option.

Hummus, pitta strips and crudités/salad veg
Pasta with a cream cheese, spinach and frozen peas sauce (just melt all together, so easy and quick)
Veg sausage, sweet potato mash and a green veg
Easy stirfry - noddles with sweetcorn, spring onion, red pepper, chopped cashews and soy sauce

Don't feel bad about the ready meals, as long as they are decent. It's honestly fine for a few months.

How about the stuffed fresh pasta? She can have a cheesy one with your usual sauce and whatnot and you don't have to smell it...

GrumpyHoonMain · 06/11/2019 10:37

Does all cheese make you sick or just stronger hard cheeses? Grilled halloumi / paneer with roasted red peppers was my handy go to the DN when I get nausea. Another tip is if you marinate the larger portabello mushrooms in lemon herbs and oil before cooking then they don’t smell as bad.

I'd also suggest in the short term that you don't worry about ready meals, but do go for good quality nutritious ones.

There is a company called Farm Foods that specialise in healthy, balanced meals, they cater for everything from diabetes, to allergies & beyond. The portion size is aimed at elderly, so a bit on the small side, but perfect fir a toddler. My DD would eat these if we visited my DPs as cooking there could be problematic & she lived the,. They deliver too.

Let them sit down & choose with you + Stock up fir a few weeks & relax

Thank you all so much! It should definitely help get me out of the rut.
