Car seat placement ??

Hey,
My 15 month old is now going into a forward facing car seat So is now going into the back seats ( she is epileptic and we were not comfortable having her rear facing in the back seats where we could see her) (airbag was turned off) I have 2 other children one of which is still in a high back car seat, my partner and myself can’t agree on where to place the car seats. So am looking for advice on placement baring in mind the driver needs to be able to keep eyes on little one with an additional child rear view mirror.

What car is it? Struggling to understand layout here

BeanBag7 · 05/11/2019 14:41

I would put her behind the drivers seat. I have it this way and can see her in my extra rear view mirror. If she is behind the passenger seat it is too tempting to turn around and look which obviously is dangerous.
Just try it one way and if it doesn't work out, swap them over.

Also you could still put her rear facing but have a mirror attached to the headrest of the rear seat, which you can then see in your rear view mirror. But I understand why you prefer forward facing as she has a medical condition.

Is the middle seat in your car suitable? It would be safest and also easiest to see her.

I have a qashqai, so middle seat is a full belt.

What car seat are you wanting to fit for your DD? What ages are the other children?

I always have my youngest child in the rear passenger side seat so that in an emergency I can see him. He's a bit of a choker and if he's ever given food in the car I need to be able to see him properly.

I would put the littlest one behind the driver. That way, worst case scenario and you have to pull over in an emergency she's closest to you when you get out of the driver's door, and you don't have to lean over any other children to get her out.

TryingToBeBold · 05/11/2019 22:00

@BlueKarou I see where you're coming from re emergency but I would rather go round to the passenger side and safely get the child out rather than opening and dealing with the situation on potentially a busy road.

BlueKarou · 06/11/2019 10:42

@TryingToBeBold - you make a very good point. I live on a quiet road, in a quiet village, so it's usually safe and easy for me to park on the 'other side' of the road, so the driver's side is parked next to the curb. Definitely not a great idea if you're not going to be able to park to fit the seating arrangement.
