Play inspiration!

Morning all!
Just wanting some inspiration on games to play with my 21 month old please.
He’s not talking (salt referral denied, autism referral possible depending on 2 year review). He likes running round the house, opening kitchen cupboard doors and playing with the sieve, loves playing with cars and reading books.
I’ve just ordered a shape sorter to play with so that should arrive soon, I know Christmas is only round the corner.
Most days we are out and about but with the rubbish weather on its way I’m after play ideas for inside! He doesn’t like play doh and not at all interested in crayons. I’ve made a post box to post flash cards through which he enjoys doing. Yesterday morning he played in the bath for a bit with bubbles and bath toys (normally has a shower at night).
Thanks all!!

Have a look at play.hooray on Instagram (also has a website) loads of ideas!

If he likes water stand him at the sink with bubbles and lots of containers to play with. Dried pasta to play with. A latch board if he likes opening and closing doors?

PinkDaydreams · 04/11/2019 11:12

Latch board is a good idea, I’ve actually had one on my amazon wish list for a while.
Any other ideas, don’t necessarily have to involve buying new toys as it’s not long till Christmas/birthday.

I used to take all the pans out of the kitchen cupboards and 'let DS2 help me put them away' to occupy him for a bit. Even better if all the lids have mysteriously got jumbled up

PinkDaydreams · 04/11/2019 13:00

We’ve had a play with the pans today, thanks @LadyMonicaBaddingham

How about a toy kitchen or some pretend play with cups and saucers? My LO is younger but likes stacking cups, putting things in and out of boxes and toy cars/animals. I've made her a basket of "treasure" with lots of different items she can explore made from different textures (wooden items, metal spoon, cardboard, ribbons, etc). I've also made her rainbow rice (Pinterest will have a recipe but very easy to do) and we hide items in the rice and she has to dig through it to find them. You could do the same thing with oats or lentils?

We had a Top Bright wooden click clack track
My DS also used to love balloons

Ricekrispie22 · 04/11/2019 19:48

And hiding things under stacking beakers and in nesting eggs. Also used to love stomping on bubble wrap!

PinkDaydreams · 05/11/2019 07:13

I actually bought a pack of balloons the other day so they’ll be coming out soon! Bubble wrap is a fab idea! Thank you! He’s getting a click clack track for Xmas.

My 20 month old loved playing with a tray of dry pasta this week... A few spoons, cups and a bottle to fill... Also added a smoothie straw to the bottle and he's been putting the pasta through the straw into the bottle.

Also with regards to speech - talk to him loads without expecting answers, go on a walk etc comment on the cars, the colours, the trees, birds etc..
How's his understanding? If you say bedtime/ bathtime etc what does he do? At this age salt will be more concerned with his understanding initially.. 🙂

PinkDaydreams · 05/11/2019 07:43

I like the pasta through the straw idea! He’s got one of those bead sets that you thread onto strung for Xmas.
Thank you for the advice @Smurf123 I’m constantly talking to him, to the point where people look round at me when in the supermarket or waiting at the bus stop! He understands ‘coat on/up/upstairs/let’s go/no’. But won’t point to anything at all or try involve us by showing us toys etc.
