3rd time on antibiotics in 6 months

Is that normal? Dc (aged 17 months) started nursery 6 months ago, and has had 3 bad chest infections that required antibiotics, time off work for me, and she's miserable each time with temperature, running nose, rattly cough. The cough then tends to hang around for weeks, keeping her awake at night.
Is there anything I can do to boost her immune system? And is this always the way with nursery?

Illness at the start of nursery is definitely inevitable and feels continuous when they first start- however 3 lots of antibiotics is extreme imo. Do you have a gp who prescribes them quite easily?
Diet and sleep will always be important to a child’s health- how are those?
Btw when the LO gets sick, I raise the head of her mattress (plop a pillow underneath) and vicks on feet, under socks at night!

That amount of illness is fair enough in a nursery, but I’d be very concerned about that many courses of antibiotics. They’ll be destroying DCs microbiome and all the good bacteria too, likely leading to her getting ill more easily next time. I’d try and make sure she has a lot of gut friendly food and a probiotic

Thanks, yeah the doctor does seem to prescribe them quite easily but he always says he can see the inflammation and white spots at back of throat which is sign of infection. Her diet would be very good, the nursery gives all home cooked meals, lots of fruit and veg etc, and we do the same at the weekend. A probiotic is a good idea thanks buffalocauliflower, hopefully that will boost her immune system? I presume it will take a while to kick in. I'll try the Vicks on her feet onlyfoolsandmothers, thanks, I'd put it on her chest but that might be better. I've tried proping the mattress but she generally ends up sideways or down opposite end of cot! We also use the calpol plugins and a humidifier when she's like this.

The first year in a daycare is a recipe for many illnesses and they say as a child builds up there immune system they catch everything..
I have gone into my second year of daycare and thankfully less illness but still of course we get the germs, rounds.
Many families return still sick, airborne illnesses and close contact.
We eat a variety of healthy foods.
Prescribing antibiotics for a chest infection yes of course it's better than risking it becoming worse, no one wants there child on antibiotics.
our last illness we had a cortisone medicine but better than a hospital admission and a stressed mum. Including a inhaler for the cough.. a cough can last weeks.
Hopefully you can get time off and support with your workplace.

Thank you mumsie2019 that's what I'm hoping, that she'll gradually build up immunity from it. Good idea with the inhaler, I've heard that can be good. Yeah work is fine, mainly because I just use my own annual leave for it.
