Toddler spitting

DD is 2.5 and has a habit of spitting food out/spitting water from her cup onto the floor/table etc
I have no idea where she’s learnt this habit from as I can’t think of anyone she would have ever seen do this, and at the moment she only does it at home but I obviously want to stop this spitting!
It’s not as though she only does it if she has taken too big a mouthful of food/water, she does it all the time.
Does anyone else’s toddler do this?!

Maybe that's your signal to end her mealtime. 2.5 is big enough to be told, and if she chooses to go ahead and spout her water out anyway her meal is over, even if it's only just begun.

Yes! Same age and has started doing the same thing over the past few weeks. She deliberately spits it on the floor, blankets, pillows etc. Even worse she has started spitting it on my older daughter and today she spat milk over the cat. All I keep doing is telling her no and taking the drink/food away. She is behind speech and communication wise so I'm at a loss what else to do!

Thanks for your replies, it’s not just at mealtimes it’s at regular intervals throughout the day!
She speaks well for her age so I don’t think it’s to communicate being full/not liking something as she is able to tell me this.
I think she thinks it’s funny as she likes to play with the water especially once she’s spat it, not sure what to do as I can’t ban her from having a drink?!

Mine definitely does it because she thinks it's funny. I have just took the last of her dinner away as she was pulling the food out her mouth and throwing it to the cats! She always laughs while she's doing it it's definitely just a joke to her.

Both mine did similar. I assumed they did it once and someone laughed and they think it's a big joke! The new one in our house is blowing raspberries at any opportunity.
As soon as they spat I took the drink/ food away straight away and gave a stern no. Although I'm not sure if they just grew out of it or what I did worked

Yes first time my daughter done it someone laughed. She's currently spitting her juice over my legs and blowing raspberries in my face so off to bed she goes......
