I went nuts on the party. Made sure I took lots of pics. Present wise I bought us s family annual ticket to a farm park near us and out money in her savings x she got bits from people so decided not to get her any toys.

We had a party and I made a cake that I dont think he actually ate any of! The kids had child friendly snacks so the cake was for the pictures and adults really.

We bought him a baby einstein drum kit thing and someone else got him the piano. My parents bought him a slide for their garden and a water play table (summer birthday).

One year olds honestly don't need a party - they won't really understand what it's about and won't remember it. Do whatever suits you!

Presents- maybe something like a ride-on toy. Something that comes in a big box, it's often true that they get as much fun from the box as the toy.Grin

My dd is 3 soon

Her 1st birthday we went to a lovely wooden soft play with her grandparents and back for a fairy cake. I bought a supermarket cake for us adults and she had some of the cupcake with icing on

Presents wise the best thing we got was a bundle of second hand books from my granny - lots of classics, she adores reading and has 3 in her bed to read every night. I'd recommend asking for a favourite book from people (new or 2nd hand)

From what I remember we got a set of happy land (mouse teapot) still loves it and couple of puzzles but a wooden activity table/cube went down v well.

Her birthday is in December so we try not to go overboard with presents due to Christmas

This year dh and I will take her to the aquarium and have a wooden tree house, handmade wooden gnomes and some soft toy sea animals. Immediate family party at home with cake and sarnies, bubbles, music, balloons and that's about it

We got DD a SmartTrike for her 1st birthday. She also got a few books, a puzzle and a couple of teddies. I didn't make her a cake that year, she had a Colin Caterpillar and ate about two bites total! But she's a fussy eater. We went to the pub for lunch with my DPs, then at the weekend we went to the same pub for lunch with PILs.

DS was 1 in July and he just got some toys (mainly trucks because that's what he likes), some handed down from DD! He already uses the trike so couldn't say that was the present, or I would've. We went to the pub for lunch with DPs, and the soft play afterwards. He also had Colin Caterpillar but he ate a bit more of it. From next year I'll start making him cakes like I do for DD.

They both had lovely, lowkey birthdays.

My dd was 1 in July, we got her a trike which was second hand from gumtree, and few other bits like a wooden shape shorter, xylophone, and the tomy egg box thing (which she loves but I hate lol) we took her to a farm with a soft play area for a few hours, and then had a party just at the house the saturday after. The party was mainly for the benefit of my relatives as they live a few hours away so they didn't get to see her on her birthday. It was nice weather too so everyone enjoyed it, but for a winter birthday I wouldn't go to too much trouble for a party

I didn't buy anything. DC don't know what's going on, other relatives wanted to get things. I had a lovely afternoon tea, made a nice cake, drank champagne and celebrated the fact we'd both survived the year x

I made a cake (normal lots of sugar recipe), dc had a small sliver.

I got a Little Tykes Rocking Horse - a hideously bright plastic monstrosity which they adored

Also got some board books, and did a sensory basket. It had an old remote control, a CD, a shower smooshie, a plastic bottle half full of dried pasta for shaking, and other different textured stuff.
