Here hope this helps both you and him.

Children are individuals. Just because you might have read in a book that they can be trained at 2.8 does not mean all children everywhere should have their nappies taken off them and thrust into nappies! Some children are quicker, some are much slower. We all develop at different rates and in different ways, I do wish more mothers would remember this.

Interested in this thread?

Then you might like threads about these subjects:

I do agree with that - that's why on these threads my advice is usually give up and leave it till later if you are still struggling after a week.

Having done 3 myself, I know how easy it is when you do it when they are ready.

Glad to hear it!

Gobbledigook · 16/08/2007 16:14

ROFL! Of course! Hehehe!

Gobbledigook · 16/08/2007 16:15

Hey, they are all boys too, notoriously harder to 'train'

Rhubarb · 16/08/2007 16:16

Update on that thread btw, look at the date I started it, ds has just figured it out. He has now been pooing on the toilet for 2.5 weeks!

It was a combination of the sticker chart, his poos getting solid (even not doing one for 4 days!) and us completely and totally ignoring any accidents.

nice

Rhubarb · 16/08/2007 16:20

Hmmm, I can relate to that. Imagine cleaning that up every day MT, twice a day, for 3 months.

I stopped trying to clean in the end and threw undies away.

Poor little mite, she ok?

Right now, are you saying I should give up potty training because ds is pooing his pants? He has got wees sorted so I DO NOT want to put him back in nappies, that is surely a HUGE step backwards?

OP posts:
Gobbledigook · 16/08/2007 16:24

No, if wees sorted I think that's different and you have to carry on.

If getting cross doesn't work and bribery won't, you'll have to try ignoring.

Feel for you.

I also throw pants away - no way I'm faffing about trying to scoop poo out and then wash. Bugger that.

Right so primark tomorrow for hundreds of pairs of pants and try ignoring for a while I know it's the 'right' thing to do but oh...I hope this doesn't last long. He's a good little chap and he's so pleased with himself about the weeing. I'm only potty training him now because he's going to pre-school in Sept for 2 mornings. Goodness knows what they will have to say about this...what will I do then?!

DANCESwithDumbledore · 16/08/2007 16:28

We could if don't want ds to reach his 3rd birthday. He is embracing the 2yr old behaviours and being trapped in a room with him for a day (with dd 4yrs)...well lets just say it wouldn't be a good idea

im with rhubarb in the main... obviously all dc are individuals and each has diff personalities and circs etc...

but on the whole, i am v lax with 'training' gentle encouragement and delight at successes... and thats about it. they get the gist by themselves when they are ready.

the 4yo is all dry/clean now... has a nappy at night just in case, but is usually dry in the morn.

3yo great when naked (at home) but refuses pants atm. crapped in the toilet last night tho,( big hurrah)

even the 18mo took himself off to the loo yesterday to do a wee... on the floor next to the toilet, but hey, thats pretty encouraging, no??

school/nursery/peer pressure/discomfort makes most children decide for themselves really. imho.

saying that, my db used to crap his pants every day for a couple of years when he was about 7 god that was gross. in hindsight, he was pretty insecure at the time...

Piggy · 16/08/2007 16:29

Surely other children at pre school have accidents? I cannot believe that every child at pre school is completely potty trained. Ds1 is due to start in Jan and I'm already worried in case he isn't trained by then.

DANCESwithDumbledore · 16/08/2007 16:31

Argh, it's a nightmare isn't it Piggy. I waited until the summer to train him and he is doing really well apart from the poos, I don't want him to feel like a failure if he has accidents at nursery
