My dd is just two and is now wanting to sit on her potty. The thing is i havent a clue what to do other than sit her on it when she asks for it. What she is doing now is wanting to sit on the pot whilst i have a wee, so that is good i think. She was straining on the potty last night to do a poo but nothing happened, i believe she didnt actually need to go. This morning she was excited about sitting on her potty but asked for a nap nap and then did a poo. She is telling me the minute she has done a poo so she is obviously aware and ready for toilet training. Hellllllllllp

LEM, just go with it, she is just two so is still just getting to grips with the 'needing to go' sensations. Just praise praise praise when she goes and no scoulding when she doesn't. Set aside a few days when u have no plans to go anywhere and stick her in pants and see how u get on. If you do need to go anywhere, stick a nappy on OVER her pants, explaining she is still a big girl and she still needs to ask, but it;s 'just in case' that way she will still feel wet if she goes.

Other than that you doing everything right

oh and buy a cheap potty for every room so that she doesn't avoid going just cos she can't see a potty. tesco's got em for 79p

she is not yet able to tell me she needs to go, but is asking to sit on her potty, especially when she comes to the loo with us (i cant even have a poo in peace!!!!!) which is quite cute actually. I'm not one for pushing potty training, cos it will make her a big girl and i want her to be my baby for a while longer I just dont want to bugger things up by offering the pot before she is ready even though she is asking for it, novelty wearing off etc, getting frustrated bla bla bla

You sound like me 5 days ago. I can just tell you my experience so far:
Ds (2 yrs 2mo soon) was in similar situation but had never actually indicated he needed a wee before one came along. After a couple of days of not much fun and half-wees, he suddenly woke up and announced he needed a wee and hopped on the potty.
We still have a way to go but some very proud moments!

I've been struggling with when to start potty training. It seems like you've all waited till the age of about 2 years when they are aware of what they are doing and aware of the need to go wee or poo. This has been a very useful thread to read
