Swim nappies

I am planning on taking my 3 month old swimming. She's currently in a size 1 nappy.

I've really struggled to find size 1 swimming nappy, it seems like huggies and pampers don't do them in this size. Can anyone confirm if this is correct?

I only found the reuseable ones fitted at that young age. The Huggies ones I've found are all bigger. I got ours from the Splashabout website but they were quite dear

JohnJJingleheimerSchmidt · 25/10/2019 17:59

I couldn't find a disposable small enough either so I used a reusable swim nappy (still using them at 18 months), I thought it was great; it's from Bambino Mio and the sizing is in months.

Blackbear19 · 25/10/2019 18:00

I'm sure huggies do but I'd wait until LO is a wee bit bigger and in size 2.

Not so much to do with the nappy size more to do with us taking DS when he was tiny and he felt very vulnerable in the pool.

Forgot to say. The smallest size disposable swim nappies worked for us from around 4.5 months even though they were not the correct nappy size.

Is your 3 month old really still in size 1? What weight are they?

dementedpixie · 25/10/2019 18:09

Size 2-3 little swimmers do from 7lbs
Size 3-4 are from 15lbs

What weight is your baby?

gem584848838 · 25/10/2019 18:29

She is still in size 1, she was 9 pounds 11 ounces when she was weighed last a couple of weeks ago. She was tiny when she was born, only 4 pounds 14 ounces. But she wasn't premature and she hasn't had any health issues. She's grown so well and the health visitor is really happy with her growth and said that she is happy for me to take her swimming.
I assumed that the swim nappies were the same sizes as normal nappies. I didn't realise that the size 2 might fit her, I'll have a look at these. Will also look for reusable ones. Least they're better for environment and I can reuse

She may fit size 2 now as they're from 9lbs according to the Pampers guide

horse4course · 25/10/2019 18:58

Psssst top secret - swim nappies are just about poo containment not wee absorption so you can reuse disposable ones if you dry them out

Thank you for the advice, really helps. FTM (if you can't tell!) So have got no idea about these sort of things

When I took my baby swimming the first time she was 8lb. We had to buy size 2, they were fine. That said ours was lessons so she also had to have a reusable (size extra small) happy nappy over the top, and she’s not yet pooed in the water so they’ve never been tested...!

maryberryslayers · 25/10/2019 20:29

2-3 is fine. I took long, thin DS at 3 weeks (8lb) and they fitted ok. You need a correctly sized happy nappy over the top, don't buy cheap imitations.

Xuzes · 25/10/2019 20:37

I used these for my baby from Asda...

Just as a warning, the disposable swim nappies seems not brilliant on their own. That’s why the swim schools all make the babies have a double layer system. I’ve had a few occasions over the years where there would have been a poo in the pool if my daughter hadn’t had a happy nappy on over the disposable.

Orangedaisy · 25/10/2019 22:04

As an aside, I put the Asda disposable nappies in the washing machine (just a normal 40c wash) if they haven’t been pooed in and they come out good as new. Had about 7 uses out of one once.

Orangedaisy · 25/10/2019 22:04

The swimming ones, obviously.

NameChange30 · 25/10/2019 22:11

I never saw the point in disposable swim nappies.

We just used a Happy Nappy wrap underneath a Happy Nappy.

Pretty sure you can get those to fit 3m+.

I took my DS who is 3 months swimming for the first time and think he had size 2 in little swimmers can't remember the size now. My DS seems huge compared your DD he's 14lbs 🙈😂

LionelRitchieStoleMyNotebook · 25/10/2019 23:09

DS was tiny at that age (he's not now...) , we used totsbots reusable swim nappies, they're really good. We've had some accidents in our local pool that meant we missed lessons, and the swim teacher says he wishes they'd ban the disposables unless you have a reusable layer on top.

LionelRitchieStoleMyNotebook · 25/10/2019 23:11

You might want something warmer than a swimming costume too, we use the Konfidence babywarma others in DSs class in the beach type costumes end up with blue lips!

CharleneCage · 26/10/2019 10:25

I used a birth to potty size reusable swim Nappy with my little one, it has poppers to adjust the size.

I took mine at 6 weeks in a size 2 and it was the tightness of a size one.

Lazypuppy · 26/10/2019 14:11

Normally swimming pools say you have to use a disposable and a reusable neorprene (happy nappy) on top so double check before you go
