Baby eczema

I think my 6.5 old may have eczema, arms and legs are very dry... and her arms look bit blotchy red... her dad had bad eczema as a child. Do you think raw aloe vera would help? Her dad suffered from really bad anxiety about his bad skin and I really don't want her to suffer the same way :(:(

Has she seen the GP? My baby DD’s cleared up with twice a day moisturising, no more than two baths a week and steroid ointment. It’s staying away with regular moisturising - cetraben cream but when I ran out I switched to a very thick calendular cream from Weleda which I love.

I don’t know much about aloe though I once put it on a bad sun burn and it was very relieving.

For eczema you need to moisturise moisturise moisturise.

Not saw the GP yet. Was wanting to see if it would clear up or not. Will call next week if it gets worse. She only had a bath twice a week. I have an aloe vera plant at home just put some on the red areas will see if it works. Maybe look for a natural cream with no added chemicals. I did try baby oil last night and I think this is what's got it worse today!! Literally hate chemicals! Why is baby creams etc packed with them!

No raw aloe will not help. It might even make it worse as it is water based and not oil based. Go get some emollient and hydrocortisone and pray to Jesus. In the meantime, olive oil.

I have suffered since I was born. It's hell.

LemonPrism · 25/10/2019 16:17

If it is eczema they will need 'chemicals' (everything on earth is a chemical). It itches like ants under your skin and is very painful. You'll have to get over your aversion if it gets worse.

I am being put on an immunosuppressant which can cause lung fibrosis. Such joy.

Baby oil often has fragrance in

Firsttimemummy27 · 25/10/2019 16:19

I'm going to give the weleda cram ago the ingredients seems good. If not trip to the doctors Monday :(. A lot of people have said that it's hell. I really hope and pray that this isn't going to be a thing for my little girl.

Weleda stuff is good, but it's Children's Farm stuff that has really helped with my DD's dry skin patches. I had eczema (not terrible) as a child and still get a little now so I expected her to get it a little. Moogoo stuff is nice too - their irritable skin balm has worked well on a couple of redder bits.

Try not to panic about it - it's not hugely uncommon for babies to get some dry skin from time to time! Their skin is still adjusting to the world when they're so tiny.

LemonPrism · 25/10/2019 16:22

Agree with the above though, I think you'd be able to tell if it was eczema (and some mild won't much affect her). I really hope she doesn't get it badly.

Celebelly · 25/10/2019 16:24

Even if it is eczema, there's huge variations in severity. Mine was pretty mild and I grew out of it almost entirely by mid-teens. Before that it only manifested as occasional flare-ups on inside of elbows and back of knees. I didn't have to apply painful chemicals and it didn't really impact my life other than being mildly irritating at times. So there's no need to catastrophise about it yet!

Moominfan · 25/10/2019 16:25

Eczema is so fickle what works for one won't always work for another. Mine uses prescribed hydrocortisone steroid cream from the drs. Aldi sensitive bath and bubble. A Reno for moisturiser.

Firsttimemummy27 · 25/10/2019 16:30

I was using baby farm before I tried the baby oil stupidly. I wish I hadn't now. I've tried the aloe Vera but reading above maybe I shouldn't have. Will get the weleda stuff tomorrow from boots give that a try. I know it common for baby's to have dry skin etc. And this may not even be eczema but looks the same in my opinion. Trying not to worry hate the thought of her being itchy :( if I'm still in two minds Monday morning I I'll try calling the doctor and get the opinion from the gp.

DD’s was wrongly thought to be a fungal thing by a pharmacist as the patches had a clear rounded shape with a darker outline. It was getting worse on the cream I was using for that and took her to the GP who said eczema straight away but it wasn’t clear to me. We got Eumovate steroid cream and it was clearing within a few uses, I was amazed. Reluctant to use steroids more often then strictly necessary so I’m moisturising her religiously and it’s helped loads.

mumofpickles · 25/10/2019 16:35

Aveeno is the only thing to clear up mine and my sons. You can get creams lotions and bath wash it takes the stinging/ itching/ crawling feeling away for both of us.

Firsttimemummy27 · 25/10/2019 16:36

She just has a few rough patches on legs and arms around elbows. On one arm its raised and reddish not anger red just red. I think I'll give Keep moisturising with the weleda cream tomorrow and see how we go. My minds at rest for now but hearing how bad it can be dose worry me for her in the future:(

Aveeno not areno

Firsttimemummy27 · 25/10/2019 16:38

I have Aveeno baby wash also. I have used it a few times I tend to try not wash her with anything as she's 6.5 months old she's not dirty. May give this a go to next bath time.
