Essay - critical points

Please can someone help?

Have to write a very short essay, 700 words on the Seafarer Poem from the Exeter book.

We've been asked to write 3 or 4 paragraphs each covering 1 literary point.

What exactly is meant by 'literary point'?

Examples welcome - doesn't have to be this poem, obviously, any well-known work so that I can understand.

Many thanks,

Literary devices?

Like-
Metaphor
Assonance
Similie
Rule of 3
Hyperbole
Rhythm and rhyme
Alliteration

That’s what I think it is....

I would do
Para1 - brief introduction to time and pkzce if poem plus simple comment on its theme and argument (e.g this poem is about cats and treats the domestic animal as if it retained some of its ancestors' wild characteristcs)

Para 2. The structure of the telling of the poem - what happens and how it happens including versufication and rhythm etc as pertinent

Para 3 how the poet's use if language contributes to the presentation (alliteration, metaphor etc)
Para 4 perhaps a brief summation.

Thank you Atalune. No I am aware of those.

I am basically going through the poem like we did in class, quoting lines and words and giving them meaning and context, including the times it was written in.

Basically it's a sailor who is very lonely and has a hard life at sea
He then compares it too the cushy life of the land-dweller.
The poem then takes a turn to the fleeting nature of life and how earthly things pass away.
Then lastly onto trusting and praising God.

But are these literary points?

I have emailed my tutor but no reply.

Yes, supported by observation of style, language use, mood etc they would be.

Fabulous! Thank you to both of you.
