Please no hate!

Hello,
My baby is nearly 9months. I have just noticed today it looks like her tooth is coming through with a hole in it. Like it's rotting.
But, she doesn't really have sugary foods and she only had a juice like once a week sometimes less. It's like a treat if we see our for dinner really. So sometimes never.

I admit I forget to brush her teeth everyday so it's more like every other day. That's is my fault. I am trying to put it into our routine and do it in the morning when she has a bath.

But it shouldn't being coming through rotten should it. Her other teeth that are out are fine.
It literally this one tooth that's just started coming through. She does bite everything so may it's bruised if that can even happen.

Can this be reversed if it is tooth decay ?
I have just read that you should let them fall asleep with a bottle which I am guilty of doing.
I am so upset I feel like I have fail her if it is.

I am going to try and get a dentist appointment in the morning either way or the answers I get just to be safe anyway.

Just want people's opinions not to harsh please

Well, I think the food industry does its best to damage the health of the babies and toddlers. Pouches high in fruit, baby biscuits with a third of sugar and so on. The worst are labelled as healthy snack so raisins or worst yoghurt coated raisins.
Yes she shouldn’t fall asleep with a bottle bit this wouldn’t explain a tooth coming out with decay. It is best to book a trip to dentist. Did she have lots of antibiotics as a baby? Or you during pregnancy?

Hello no antibiotics during pregnancy or when she came out.
She has to have a lot or piriton. As I believe she has intolerance and I can't figure out what the main source is so she will come up and need that. (Awaiting an appointment for that but it's a 5month waiting list )

As well as she has very bad hay fever so she would have it for that too.
But that's all. Obviously when we go on holiday she's has a little more sweet stuff then usual as family will sneak her a biscuit or two it that's all. She can't have a lot of fruit as we found it make her sick and bring her up in a rash.

Xx

Teeth need to be brushed twice a day not once a day. Is it an actual hole?

OP cut out the juice.
She doesn't need juice at all. Just milk and sips of water.
Is it her front teeth?

Divgirl2 · 21/10/2019 07:18

My son has something similar (and he still at 18 months has no juice, I brush his teeth religiously, well balanced diet etc). As soon as I noticed it we went to the dentist. Dentist said it was....something like aplastic enamel. That it probably formed in the womb, and that other than making sure we're using a high flouride toothpaste there's nothing I can do.

But he's my dentist, not your dentist. I'd recommend you make an appointment with your dentist. And cut the juice. No one needs to drink juice.

How much milk is she having? A lot of milk can cause tooth decay.
Also you need to brush in the morning and in the night.
Was your DC premature?
Could be hypermineralization which has caused the hole.

AmIThough · 21/10/2019 07:31

Take her to the dentist.

DoctorAllcome · 21/10/2019 07:42

I’d take her to a Pediatric Dentist for a look.
It could be tooth decay, or it could be something else.
Sometimes teeth form with minor structural malformations like pits or deep grooves which can be corrected with sealant to prevent decay.
Sometimes teeth form with enamel malformations like hypoplasia that look like a stain or decay on the tooth when it’s really a flaw in the enamel.

Normally a child should start seeing a dentist at age 2, but that’s only if everything looks normal. Since you’ve see an issue, take her to a pediatric dentist to check it out.

It's unlikely it's coming out with a hole in it. Antibiotics can cause disolouration but not holes.

What tooth is it? Teeth aren't straight are you sure it's not the shape of the tooth? Molar teeth look like they have 'holes'

However realistically you know your not brushing your child's teeth enough. And your child shouldn't be falling asleep with a bottle. It's all very well to say you don't want to fail your child, but you know your not taking proper care of their teeth and if your brushing every other day tooth decay is inevitable at some point. I'm not having a go but I think this might be the time to start taking proper care of their teeth.

Our dentist advises children start going to the dentist as soon as they have teeth.
