2yo gags at certain smells

Hello MN
Wondered if anyone had any shard experience or advice for me.

DS just turned 2 and for the past 6months or so his diet has gone to pot. Pretty standard toddler diet as far as I can read online.. and sometimes he'll try something new or healthy (ie veg) but mostly eats toast, porridge, veggie snack crisps, fruit, chips etc. He actually eats more now I have weaned him off breastmilk so I'm hoping slowly but surely it'll get better. In all other aspects he is completely thriving and a happy, lovely boy.

His diet is less of my issue here though. He seems to have a very heightened sense of smell. Certain smells (so far it seems to be cheese and meat I think) make him heave. He'll protest the smell of these foods 'MUMMY SMELLS!!' and will be properly gagging and actually was sick once, so I know he's not doing it for attention. We mainly play it down and will sit away from him if we eat food that 'smells' to him. Obviously we don't try and feed him any of these foods but if we have something for dinner that has this effect it'll really upset him.

The only other stuff I've read online is about children who have ASD or sensory problems, which, whilst I am no doctor or would be in anyway able to diagnose him, I do not think he has any of the signs of either of these conditions. He just seems to have a very sensitive nose/palette

Sorry this is so long.. I guess I just wondered if anyone else had this with their DC? Did it get better?

I know DP basically ate pasta and pesto until he was about 7 and now he eats everything and anything and cooks wonderful food. I think DP is a 'supertaster' as he can often taste things that other people can't, and he's just a normal bloke not some food snob or anything. So perhaps DS has got DPs sensitive palate?

Any words of advice would be most welcome and thanks if you've read all of this!
