Cranial osteopathy - what to expect

Hi
I’m taking my 4 week old son for a Crain osteopathy session tonight to try to help with his reflux. Just wondering what to expect? And do I take him I’m asleep or hungry or full?? Does it matter??
Thanks!!

2 of my 3 boys had this at a similar age. It worked wonders for them and their colic. They were different babies after. It didn't matter if they were asleep, awake or hungry. I fed them sometimes during it. They were so chilled out after it, I was amazed every time. Good luck.

I'd expect to waste my money. I recommend reading Ben Goldacre on the subject. www.badscience.net/2004/09/cranial-osteopathy/

Thanks @jitterbugintomybrain - good to know I don’t have to time feedings etc!

@forkfun - thank you for highlighting this but you can find similar articles about every medical and non-medical procedure so you just have to go with your gut. On this occasion, I would rather try to help my baby and lose the money rather than never know since it’s not invasive.
I do know it might not work but here’s hoping!!

It was the best money spent when they were that age in my humble opinion! Went from being v colicky to so relaxed and chilled. Took about 4 sessions. DS1 had constipation for a week and I was just told by the midwives that breastfed babies didn't get constipation. I mentioned it at one of the sessions, he did some work on his tummy as well and DS pooed an hour or so later. May have been coincidence but didn't seem like it to me. I am usually a sceptical person when it comes to "alternative" treatments but cranial osteopathy was a godsend for us.

You might be able to find similar articles but the worth of them depends on the source. Those based on proper research are worth more those from Joe on the Internet

Hi, I’m just wondering how you got on? I took my daughter this afternoon for her first session.

Lou0712 · 26/10/2019 07:03

Hello!
I meant to come and update on here but thought I’d wait for my final session but since you’ve asked....

After the first session I saw no difference and thought it was probably a Warsaw if money but decided to go again. She said he had tightness in his left side of body and she could feel it all bubbling.
I took him a week later and since then he’s slept in his sleepyhead for stints in the day and in his cot at night for up to 3 hours at a time! Significantly less of the reflux symptoms too.
There was still some tightness there so I’m going back for the final session on Monday and hoping he’ll be even better then.

He still prefers to be held in the day obviously but that’s just newborns! The fact of the matter is he can now be put down on his back and sleep without choking.
Honestly the best money spent!

Hope it works for you too @CBelf18

I did this for my DD - sorted her colic, twas magic Halloween Smile

So pleased there's an improvement.

I took DD2 when she was a few weeks old. She'd been the most unsettled and crying baby but it didn't appear colicky. One session. All he did was pass his hands over her head, didn't even seem to touch her, and she immediately relaxed. I was holding her up against my shoulder and she went from a plank of wood to soft and resting into me. It was wonderful. The chap said she'd had a quick birth (it was) and she'd pretty much had a headache ever since. Was the best money I've ever spent. He said she shouldn't need more than that one session and she didn't. We could put her down to sleep rather than her having to sleep on one of us, and she was just so much happier and much more chilled.

Obviously meant “waste” not “Warsaw”?!? 😂

It’s true it looks like they’re not doing anything but it definitely works!

That’s brilliant,
We went yesterday and so far I’ve seen no improvement and if anything she’s been a little bit worse - which they did say could happen for 24-48 hours. We have booked again for next week and I’ll definitely give it another go before I write it off as not working.
Sometimes she can go down and sleep really well and other times she will just constantly cry and look as though she is in pain and nothing we can do will help her. No typical signs of colic either which is what has made me try this and fits in with the traumatic birth etc.

During the session she looked so relaxed and you could almost see that there was tension being released. Fingers crossed. I’m glad both have seen improvements xx
