Dressing 4.5mo old for autumn weather

DS is a summer baby and I’m a bit clueless about autumn and winter outside clothing.

I guess for winter I’ll get a snow suit, but what do I dress him in now? He doesn’t crawl yet, so pretty much lives in babygros.

I’m thinking vest, babygro, thick cardigan, cotton hat, warm blanket?

My DD was an August Baby, from October I recall putting her in this kind of thing

When winter came I move to a thicker padded snow suit.

Also I had a blanket in the pram

Your better with a thinner coat / pramsuit than a padded snowsuit in the pram, then you can add / remove layers with blankets etc if needed

7Worfs · 15/10/2019 11:09

Thank you both, I just ordered a fleece all in one pram suit from Jojo Maman. It looks quite thin, but warm.

Normal clothes underneath, then either blanket, cosy toes and a small coat (maybe a hat) or a snow suit without the cosy toes

This in between weather is trickiest though! Easier when it's full on winter to dress them than when you're worried about them being too hot/ too cold. Much easier when the weather has made its mind up!

Celebelly · 15/10/2019 11:14

Just remember you can't use padded pramsuits and the like in car seats. Then you just need to add blanket layers on top once they are buckled in.

7Worfs · 15/10/2019 11:32

True, this weather is blah to dress for.

Thank you Cele, I didn’t know about that until recently, it always bears repeating for new mums joining MN.

It’s always tricky dressings babies. I’m on my second one and still not sure. In autumn

My little boy was born November last year and we mostly use cardigans and blankets in the pushchair last year and added more or took away as needed. I found that much easier than wrestling him into a pram suit and it meant I didn’t have to disturb him to get it off if we went into any wear warmer. At the moment he’s been wearing a vest, top, jacket and a blanket if he’ll keep it on and I put my fingers down his back to check his temperature

7Worfs · 16/10/2019 09:11

Mine is a kicker, it’s a constant struggle to keep a blanket on him, even if it’s elaborately tucked in

Trousers over babygro might help then. We used soft stretchy ones, like loose leggings or tracksuit bottoms without a bottom cuff.

Layers is better than a thick suit, keeps them warmer and is easier to adjust if the temp changes. My kids always have merino wool vests under their clothes in colder weather and it makes so much difference that I started wearing one too!
