Baby not poop'd for 9 day..

Hello,

I have a 5 week old baby who hasn't poo'd since last Saturday (9 days ago), her wind is terrible and smelly, and sometimes she seems to have a stomach ache and other times seems fine.
I have rang the health visitors but they haven't called back, and there is a drop in centre that's open tomorrow. But in the meantime, has anyone experienced the same? Anything I can do to help.. move things along?!

Tia!

Sorry yes she is BF! So sounds fairly normal :)
I'm registering her birth later... I assume she'll do it then when most inconvenient!!

Oh she will absolutely do a poonami in the registry office!

I once took dd to a cafe and forgot her baby bag. Of course she chose that time to poo for the first time that week. It was horrendous! Won’t forget that walk home for a while ha.

@MustardScreams
I feel your name may refer to this scenario Grin

My breastfed baby used to go every 7 days. That was her normal. Occasionally it would be a few days more or less. If she appears comfortable and is having wet nappies I wouldn’t worry just yet.

lisag1969 · 14/10/2019 12:41

Maybe give her cooled boiled water in between feed.

PotteringAlong · 14/10/2019 12:43

Maybe give her cooled boiled water in between feed.

Please don’t do this!

RolytheRhino · 14/10/2019 12:48

Maybe give her cooled boiled water in between feed.

This advice is only safe for bottle fed babies. As you breastfeed, ignore it!

Maryann1975 · 14/10/2019 12:56

I remember one of mine going a week or so with a poo before we were meeting at a swimming pool with friends... looking back I can’t believe how lucky I was that she didn’t poo in the pool! She didn’t and went another day or so before doing an Absolutely massive Poonami while we were out in town. I had no idea what to do and just went home and dealt with it there.

But yes, op, I think it’s completely normal in a breastfed baby as the baby absorbs so much from the milk there is little waste to come out.

Quick update! Health visitor called me and has said I should go to the gp as it's been 9 days. GP is fully booked but is trying to squeeze us in today....

Friend of a friend had a DD who pooed once every 10 days and the poosplosion was so immense that the clothes had to be chucked Shock. My DS went through a two week period of doing 5-7 dirty nappies a day when he was about 4 months old. That was fun Hmm.!This too shall pass

PotteringAlong · 14/10/2019 17:38

Did you get sorted?

ipfreeley · 14/10/2019 18:17

They felt her tummy and said to keep massaging her belly and come back in two days if no movement....

I wonder if I can eat anything to help...? Bran or something...

Honestly, I think you just have to wait it out. There’s very little waste with breastmilk

Pandaintheporridge · 14/10/2019 18:26

Wine might do the trick Smile

ipfreeley · 14/10/2019 18:34

Yeah, I think you're right... it will come when it's ready!

Although if wine helps.. I could happily oblige Grin

Wine for the mother will definitely help, surefire scientifically proved and everything Wink Grin

My DS regularly went this long. Did you say she was in discomfort? We didn't have any crazy poos, when he finally went it would just be a little bit then he would.go back to a poo every 3 days.. Was so bizarre --- where did it go?!

I would always just go to the GP and not bother with health visitor personally.

A bath helped us often... But yuk having to tip the poo out 😂

Good Luck!

ALERT ALERT
WE HAVE A CODE BROWN!

She was sat on me and suddenly we heard the indisputable sound of her filling her nappy.. and it was pretty epic! Luckily we were at home and I managed to get the happy off before we had any leaks!

Thanks to all for the advice! We did massage and give a bath, but I also suspect it just came when it was ready. She seems in much better spirits.. now let's pray for a good nights sleep!
