WIBU to use a (food) steamer to sterilise baby bottles?

Expecting dc1 in January. Planning to attempt breast feeding but also emotionally prepared to mix-feed/formula feed/express milk so DH can do some too, whatever, just going to wait and see how we feel.

Anyway. I hate waste. We already own a perfectly good food steamer.

Is there any (safety-related) reason why we couldn't steam bottles etc in that for half an hour, rather than buying a separate steriliser?

Sorry if this sounds mad. On the face of it it seems reasonable enough to me, but I'm scared to mention it to people in real life in case it marks me as a Bad Parent.

What would you then steam food in? I found a microwave steam sterilser heap, quick and easy and I then gave it away afterwards.

You can boil bottles in a pan to save buying separate equipment.

We don't use the steamer that often Blush

I had never heard of a microwave steam steriliser. This is why MN is so good! Thank you!

If you get MAM bottles they sterilise within themselves in the microwave but if you were going to move exclusively to formula feeding then that a lot of effort.
