Preventing nappy rash with washables

Sorry I'm spamming the board today!

I've been experimenting with my collection of washable nappies recently and want to go over to washables properly when we get back from hols in Sept. I've tried: terry squares with PUL wrap, popolino fitted terry with PUL wrap, wonderoo with hemp stuffer, miscellaneous well used fitted ones that a friend gave me (some seem to be towelling, some more like cotton, not terry). All with flushable liners ('windervlies').

But DS is definitely getting more nappy rash. I have been changing him more frequently - about every 3-4 hours. He also got nappy rash when we used eco-disposables (Moltex Oko). He never gets it with Tesco's cheapo disposables .

What can I do to prevent this? I've got all fired up about using washables now but don't feel I can change over if it's going to make him sore. Does the type of liner make a difference? Would microfibre nappies help? Are fleece or wool wraps better than PUL? Any tips very welcome

(And sorry for all the questions. I will try to give back once I've any experience!)

You can get silk liners aswell, which are supposed to be great for nappy rash and are completely natural, but considerably more expensive.

Why will bio damage PUL wraps? I have been using it on them for the past 3 years without problems.

You asked about chopping and changing between different types of nappy.
That is perfectly possible with no problem.
When my DD was first born I used disposables, but then began to phase in washables when she was one month old.
I only used a few during days at home to start with and gradually built up their use. Now I very rarely ever use disposables at all.
I never had any problems using a mixture of various different washables and disposables.

My DD has been in resusables since 10 days (now nearly 18mths) and only has nappy rash in dispos. We use fleece liners (fabulous things) and wash the nappies in non-bio with the occasional wash without any detergent to give them a proper rinse through. Use barrier cream at night to ensure no problems then and have nekkid time everyday to give her bum a good airing!

We use Bumbles and Fluffles nappies during the day and Ellas House at night.

So if the nappy already has a fleece lining built in (like my Wonderoo and the Fluffle which I'm considering) will that help? Could you then keep using the paper liners for convenience of disposal but the fleece lining would keep his bum drier?

You are all a fount of information - thank you!

Sorry, I don't think it's clear from my previous post, but I meant you can use a variety of nappies without having nappy rash problems.
My DD only ever gets it very occasionally with disposables, but never from washables.
