How old does DD have to be before she understands "Mum's getting your milk for you now"?

Or any of the others:
Mummy's getting your lunch for you right now.
Mummy hasn't gone away, she's just in the kitchen.
Mummy's coming as quickly as she can.

Please tell me it isn't 20 years!

DS has learnt "I'll be 2 minutes. 2 minutes okay? " (said along with showing 2 fingers..unwitting version of babysigning? He understood the gesture before the words) means I am off to do something and will be back sooooon. He is 2, but has known this for a while now.
Doesn't mean he doesn't frequently follow me, run out of patience etc

'Muuuuuuum, bring me a drink!' That's the sound of dd (7 and a half yrs) hollering down 2 flights of stairs to the kitchen. She has legs. She can reach the cups and the taps and the fridge.......

But still she has to holler and sometimes I still fall for it too!

Good luck mrs T!

Oh dear, it's as I feared.
DD loves playing "mummy (or daddy) hides under the sofa and I look for them", so she does know that when she can't see us we don't magically disappear, but I suppose that doesn't count when she's a bit peckish, or fancies a cuddle. Mind you, I do get just a teensy bit grumpy when I'm hungry. Not that I would admit to DH that she gets it from my side!

dd (14 months) is just starting to get it. Tonight she sat by the living room door at bedtime and did the baby sign for 'milk' (she has only really started signing in the last fortnight and now is picking them up at a rate of knots) then crawled out into the hall and headed off up the stairs!! DH and I nearly wet ourselves laughing!

If I do the sign for milk now, she seems to calm down a bit. If she can tell me when she wants something too, it helps to alleviate some of the frustration before she has the actual word.
