Noisy breathing after feeding

My 11 day old DS keeps making wheezy/snuffling noises after feeding (he is bottle fed), as though there is mucus on his chest. This gets worse overnight and sounds horrendous in the morning.

We're trying to burp him regularly during feeds and keep him upright after his bottle. Has anyone else experienced this? It's a heart breaking sound

What type of delivery did you have?had a EMC and was told rattling sound is left over fluid from embroytic sac they no longer remove this it slowly goes away on it's on if this is the type of rattling your talking about?
However I would get it checked out by MW/HV/GP just to be safe as they'll be able to hear the noise in person to give you right advice x

It was a vaginal delivery. I thought he would have coughed up all the gunk now but maybe not.

I will be mentioning it to the midwife and health visitor on Tuesday. I was just wondering if anyone else had experience of this. Could I be accidentally overfeeding him?

We are experiencing the same, baby is 3 weeks. Midwife was very patronising when we asked about it and basically said we should be dialing 999 if problem with breathing, we said it’s not that type of issue just didn’t know if normal, she just kept repeating that we should dial 999 Hmm. It isnt there all the time for my baby and so he wasn’t doing it when she MW was here, so if your baby is same id recommend filming when at worse so you can show you HV or doctor.

Oh I see from what your description it sounds like issues we had previously as was told left over mucus took about a month or so from what I can remember to fully go but I'm not an expert and wouldn't want to advise you wrongly. No if you were over-feeding he'd bring it up if he wasnt refusing it. Wow @Beldon hardly reassuring from your midwife!how awful! Hope they can give you an answer!

If the baby only made noises like that after being fed, I would wonder about cmpa. Might just be something to think about x

DS is now 10 weeks and he was the same. Like you say always worse over night. I had a CS and was bf though. He also didn't gain any weight until I cut dairy and soy out of my diet. After I did this the wheeze mostly went away, he still gets it sometimes which i think may be allergy related. Might this be something worth looking into?

ParadiseLaundry · 14/10/2019 06:25

Sorry, I mean that he might have CMPA as also previously suggested by @smaragda, and might need different milk, sorry my post was totally unclear, still half asleep Grin

Thanks everyone. I did wonder about CPMA. It's just strange that it's only at night. I'll ask the health visitor tomorrow
