I'm ill and husband is looking after baby. I feel so guilty

My baby has been ill since Tuesday. Doctor says it is either tonsillitis or hand, foot & mouth. She's much better now but I'm now feeling ill now. I've been to work all week (6-10am) and DH has taken time off until I get home. I feel so guilty. Today I went to work and slept on the sofa while he's done everything. I miss her and want to be with her but I'm too ill. What do other people do when they are ill? Do you feel guilty for not being your normal self with them?

I can’t say I do, or that you need to. I’ve been ill for the last 2 days and DH has done pretty much everything for DS who is 15 months. Physically I feel like crap but actually I’ve welcomed the break tbh Grin

Guilt? You’re ill! It’s just temporary.

This is just what you need to do when you’re married with children - when one is ill, the other steps up.

Your DH has stepped up, which is right and proper. No need to feel guilty.

What do other people do when they are ill?

I piss off to my bed and leave DH to it Grin

Don't feel guilty, it's ok for your DH to look after his child.

FabLaura · 12/10/2019 19:18

Well thank you. That has made me feel better. I haven't been ill since the birth and feel awful cause I'm laying on the sofa while he does everything

Would you do the same if he was as ill as you are? You probably already have your answer.

Celebelly · 12/10/2019 19:21

He's parenting his own child, no reason to feel guilty!

FelixFelicis6 · 12/10/2019 19:21

Don't feel guilty!! You're ill, you can't help it! You're doing nothing wrong, and if nothing else it creates some nice bonding time between DH and baby! They are safe and loved and cared for and all will be absolutely fine Flowers Get better soon.

EugenesAxe · 12/10/2019 19:23

Honestly, I read your title and thought: “Why?”

I’m not a raging feminist by any stretch but we are not going to move on societally if women continue to consider it ‘their job’ to raise children. If you feel guilty because your DH is giving you trouble about it then he needs to grow up and be a proper dad.

ncbaaybeee · 12/10/2019 19:25

Eh?

Redken24 · 12/10/2019 19:26

Seriously?

AllFourOfThem · 12/10/2019 19:28

When I’m ill my DH picks up my share of the childcare. He’s an equal parent so why wouldn’t he?

Ask yourself this, what would you do if your DH was ill?

aweedropofsancerre · 12/10/2019 19:30

So your guilty that your DH is parenting his DC? He isn’t doing you a favour ...... stop feeling guilty

Ziraphale · 12/10/2019 19:32

You're under the weather and you need to rest and that's absolutely ok. Don't stress. Baby will be totally fine with her papa and you can get the rest you need to recover.

PeopleMover · 12/10/2019 19:32

You can't, so therefore it's his job. Why shouldn't he??

Kittykat93 · 12/10/2019 19:40

Do you think your DH would be on a forum saying how guilty he feels if he was ill and you were helping out with the kids? Doubt it.

GertrudeCB · 12/10/2019 19:47

You feel guilty because the other parent is .............
parenting Confused?

Kingtiger101 · 12/10/2019 20:20

How old is your baby OP? I understand how you feel - your baby is poorly and you want to look after them but you can’t. It’s hard especially if your baby is very little. But yes, be glad you’ve got another parent there and rest up! You can’t pour from an empty cup etc Your baby needs you to rest and get better Flowers
