washing nappies with other laundry?

I'm only just starting out here, so a bit clueless. Can you wash nappies at 60 degrees with other laundry that's okay at that temp? Even with washing only every other day we don't get a full load of nappies. What about including dishcloths - somehow that seems particularly yucky, but I don't know if that's just me being irrational. What do you do?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

if they are just wet then I put the nappies in with other stuff. If they are dirty I put them through on their own or if there aren't enough I rinse them in the machine first and then add the rest of the washing.

belgo · 14/08/2007 14:16

I used to wash nappies with towels, sheets, that sort of thing. Mostly at 40°C; at 60°C if they happened to be really dirty.

Like zubb, put a few nappies through a rinse cycle then add whatever else. I like to do a load every day.

I do it like belgo..

FlameBatfink · 14/08/2007 18:09

I wash the nappies every 3 days.

NormaStanleyFletcher · 14/08/2007 18:11

I rinse the nappies (in the machine) first if there are any dirty ones and then fill up the load with other underwear and clothes.

I wash at 40

Ceolas · 14/08/2007 19:39

those who wash at 40, do you use sanitiser?

nappyneeds · 14/08/2007 19:41

Some ppl do wash their nappies with other laundry - most sticking to tea towels etc as mentioned below but dont forget to leave out the fabric conditioner as this will impair the fabrics ability to absorb moisture

claireybee · 14/08/2007 20:12

I wash the nappies twice a week. I prefer washing them on their own even though i know they come out perfectly clean-just don't like the thought of putting my tea towels etc in with things that are covered in wee and poo! Lots of people do, and I do know that they come out clean but just can't bring myself to do it!

IdrisTheDragon · 14/08/2007 20:15

I used to wash DDs nappies in with everything else. (many lights, except for her more vividly coloured nappies ).

Don't use fabric conditioner so that wasn't a problem.

IdrisTheDragon · 14/08/2007 20:15

I washed at 40 and didn't use sanitiser. They did come out clean honestly .

SenoraPostrophe · 14/08/2007 20:16

yes, I wash nappies with other laundry - I buy pale coloured baby clothes specially.

I also wash at 40 usually - you only need 60 when they're under 3 months.

CarGirl · 14/08/2007 20:17

I too rinse all the nappies first (which on my machine is 3 rinses & 1200 spin) then stick in any whites and wash at 40 (without conditioner) and usually just use soap nuts too.

nappyzone · 14/08/2007 20:26

i wash mine seperatly every three/ four days when i am about running out of naps and my tub wont fit anymore in - i too dont like the thought of poo in with my plate wiping implements but the major thing for me is im a lazy beast and try every non iron fabric conditioner going so as to enable me to do no ironing so no good to wash with the nappies! I know that makes me a bad person but using reusable nappies helps me restore the balance

Flibbertyjibbet · 14/08/2007 20:43

I wash my nappies at 60 and put any of the kids clothes in like pale t shirts that have stains, ds1s potty trained 'accident' clothes, washable wipes, facecloths.
When I was washing nappies for two children I washed every two days and there was NO ROOM in the washer for anything else.... roll on potty training ds2.

tikibinx · 15/08/2007 09:18

yeah all the time! Although i never tell anyone that i do!!!! Anything with any wee/poo/food stains on goes in with our nappies. Also any bedding that has fallen victim to accidents.

Bluestocking · 15/08/2007 09:30

I used to wash mine at 60 with cotton bedding and towels (insert guilty environmental vandal emoticon) - I would have felt a bit "urrgh" about washing them at a cooler temperature, which I know is completely irrational.
