Evening,

just after an opinion on whether we should message DDs nursery after spotting a bruise she's come home with this evening,

She's not in until next week otherwise I would just mention it in person at next drop off.

I appreciate bruises happen and DD does love getting stuck in, but it's the location that's bothering me. Under her upper arm pic attached

Would you agree this is more likely to be another child pinching? Or no?
Do I leave it be but monitor incase there's a child that is pinching?

I have no concerns with the nursery overall, they have just had a fresh in take from the smaller room so a few children finding their feet at the moment. So it could easily be a one off, it doesn't seem to bother her, and she was very happy at pick up

So AIBU to email nursery and mention it or should I just keep a watch and maybe mention next week when we see them?

As a one off one small bruise wouldn’t bother me

ClemDanFango · 09/10/2019 18:59

I would alert them that she’s come home with it because if they spot it they may think it’s happened with you.
Not sure what could have caused such a circular bruise doesn’t really look like a pinch? More like a poke with something the only things I can think of would be the stick from a beater for a drum or a pencil?

rollon2020 · 09/10/2019 19:05

I think it's only bothering me because it is unusual, she often comes back with the classic light bruises on her arms and legs. It just alarmed me slightly being so black and round

It looks like it should hurt but they said she was all smiles all day

I'd leave it to be honest, not a big deal.

Icedlatte · 09/10/2019 19:13

Even if a child pinched her, what would you have them do about it, given they presumably didn't witness it and she can't tell you what happened?

simplekindoflife · 09/10/2019 19:17

She could've walked into something (a toy broom handle, etc) or fallen on a bumpy toy or something with that kind of bruise. I'm not sure it's worth mentioning tbh. But keep any eye out for any more.

Spacerader · 09/10/2019 19:27

I’d let them know about it. As a previous poster said if it’s still there when she returns they may think it was done at home.

So even if you have no concerns over how the bruise came about a quickly friendly call just asking if they have noticed how the bruise happened is worth it.

They can then document it, and then going forward if more bruises show up you have a paper trail to evidence incidents.

Haworthia · 09/10/2019 19:29

I agree it’s very dark and very localised.

No way would I “leave it”. Maybe it was a child, but I’d expect to be told that it happened. It must have hurt so she would jabber cried.

At my child’s preschool they’re so hot on reporting every little bump, graze and accident. I wouldn’t expect an injury like that to go unnoticed and frankly would be concerned if if did.

Haworthia · 09/10/2019 19:30

Jabber cried? DYAC. HAVE cried!

takemetomars · 09/10/2019 19:32

Agree, would not expect a bruise shaped like that in that area of the body
Speak with the nursery

hormonesorDHbeingadick · 09/10/2019 21:33

Are there any bruises on the back of the arm?

rollon2020 · 10/10/2019 07:02

@hormonesorDHbeingadick no just that one

Those that say speak to nursery should I wait until she's in next week or call/email?

ClemDanFango · 10/10/2019 07:59

Let them know now, a quick call or email will be fine just to make them aware and see if staff have any knowledge of it.

ClemDanFango · 10/10/2019 08:00

I mean today not ‘now’ sorry.

MustardScreams · 10/10/2019 08:02

It may not have even happened at nursery, bruises can take a while to come up and for you to notice. I don’t think I’d worry about it unless it was a continuing issue.

Dd is covered in bruises, from home and nursery. I think it goes with the territory of toddlers.
