Tandem buggy recommendation which won't break bank

Please can anyone recommend good tandem buggy's which aren't too expensive. Also do you think side by side or one on top of the other is more practical? I have a 6 month and 2.6 year old so although the 2yr old doesn't always need the buggy she does require it when she's tired.

Side by side often won't go through doors, either way tandems are very heavy, so the lightest model of whatever you decide on. Most people I know (me included) use a buggy board instead.

Buggy board if your eldest doesn’t need to nap. You can get ones with little seats on if she wants to sit down.

Side by side if she does need to nap. 2nd hand out n about nipper would be my pick, they are very narrow but have decent size seats. Soo easy to push too, feels like it glides.

I had a Phil n Teds Navigator, best tandem I could find according to all the spec... it was so hard to push, didn’t work for naps and neither child liked it...

I had two little ones 14 month apart, at first we went for a tandem style and after 3 months I dumped it, the baby had to go in the back seat so she could lye flat and my toddler had to go in the front and honestly I went to bed every night with my back breaking just to turn a corner you had to put your full weight into it as all the weight was at the front.

I ended up going for a britax side by side and it was the best money I ever spent. You can clip a car seat on too should you need to and it went through all doors that I used both at home and shops. We got the chilli red one from mother care.

Mountain Buggy Duet goes through single doors and is really light to push. I used ours for over a year and really recommend it.

I got the older model of the Phil and Teds Dot for £300 (inc the double kit) off John Lewis as they were discontinuing it. It’s great for the price- there’s certainly a few niggles with it which they’ve addressed with the new version that came out this summer.

We have a 2 yr old and a 6 month old- older dc is a great Walker so we only need it for when she’s tired or we need to contain her. I love how we we flit between single and double mode without any hassle and it fits in my boot no problem!

side by side, even the huge Donkey goes through a standard door, it is the same footplate as a standard wheelchair. The one on top ones are awful to push, balance, steer, get up kerbs.

I've got twins and had a few buggies! Baby Jogger City Duo would be be my reccomendation - you can get some bargains on ebay.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Think I'm going to go for the buggy board with seat. Will be much easier than investing in yet another buggy.
