Toddler shoes - wife feet

Any recommendations for toddler shoes for boys who have (really) wide feet?
My wee boys feet were measured at Clarks and they said he has H in width (very wide) but the selection of shoes in that size is absolutely not our taste so looking for other makes that could suit - have been looking at bobux already but very little options there for high tops with Velcro.

Any advice would be appreciated thx!

do you have a start rite near you? sometimes what clarks measure an H they measure a G which means you have more options x

Omg we have the same problem! my DS is a H and it's a nightmare to find anything that fit his feet!... we have one pair of shoes and one pair of slippers but he won't even keep them on! ... i've heard that they eventually slim down? im not sure how long this will take though! Sad

Depending on the style of shoe if
For example little one measures a 5H you could try a 5.5G to get the same outcome.

Look for barefoot shoe brands op, they’re typically wide and roomy.

Thegracefuloctopus · 07/10/2019 07:12

Following if that's OK op, my DS was just measured for his first pair last week, 4.5h. Didn't realise it was going to be such a problem. Me and dh both have massive feet though so I can't say I'm surprised

I was going to suggest bobux! We always get the ankle boots with the zip. For trainers we use a brand called Plae- barefoot, can be machine washed have taken incredible beatings from our heavy footed son and have lasted!

I’d go barefoot for wide feet. Have you looked at the happy little soles website? I’ve emailed them before and they gave great advice on what brands were suitable for wide feet.

Also watching with interest, as my boy is the same. I had the opposite with my dd in that her feet were too narrow for most shoes

KevinsCarter · 07/10/2019 07:24

An independent shoe shop is your best bet. You get lots more choice than Clarks. DD had very wide feet and she had more choice. It might be more expensive initially.
Clarks tend to make a shoe fit rather than admit defeat because they want a sale.

Phillipa12 · 07/10/2019 07:35

Agree with Kevins an independent shoe shop is the way to go. I have 3 ds all with an H fitting in shoes and Clarks had such a limited choice, we get so much more choice at an independent, but they are a little more expensive. If no independents locally, Russell and Bromley are my second choice as they stock startrite and geox which also fit my boys.

apple0pie · 07/10/2019 07:50

Geox were the best we found for wide feet although very expensive

wonkylegs · 07/10/2019 07:50

Both my boys were extremely wide (measured larger than H) when they were toddlers with very high insteps so extremely hard to find shoes that fit them even at independent stores
We didn't have 'choice' we just felt it was brilliant when we found a pair we could get on them. As they were toddlers I took the line of thought that it didn't matter what they looked like as long as they fit, they grew out of each size pretty quick anyway.
I found both grew out of that phase and DS1 now at 11 has quite regular width feet and DS2 aged 3 has wide but not extreme feet from the last measure and we have a much bigger choice.
John Lewis were always very patient and helpful for shoe shopping for the boys and stock a variety of brands unfortunately their own brand is quite narrow

Cutesbabasmummy · 07/10/2019 16:52

Plae are very good for wide feet. Bobux are narrower but that's what my son has for school and also the velcro boots for at home. They are beautifully soft and with every penny imo.

myboysandme · 08/10/2019 11:52

I love Bobux too for my boys. I always found the styles with double Velcro straps are good for wide and narrow feet as they have the best adjustability.

DreamingofSunshine · 09/10/2019 16:54

Same as @wonkylegs the combo of wide feet and a high instep. We go to an independent children's shoe shop in North London that stock bobux. They said bobux and geox are good brands for DS.

So envious of those who can buy cheap shoes! And wellies are a nightmare to find.

wonkylegs · 09/10/2019 19:40

@DreamingofSunshine
We always go up a size in wellies, tbf I have to do that too as I have small wide feet and wide calves
