I was wondering what people do for their babies first birthdays? DD is 1 next month and would love suggestions or ideas x

We went on a steam train ride, had a light lunch in the tea room at the station at the other end, and took the train back again!

Hired the local village hall and had a party with family and friends

Had a party in the garden/house with family and friends. Had a bouncy castle for the kids adults.

Ours is one end November we are having a party with family and a few friends down side of winter baby is we need a hall as no one wants to go outside in November ! Upside halls are cheap .

We are having a special cake, buffet a champagne toast ( champagne are gifts from wedding last year so thought it was a nice occasion to crack the bottles open ) and a couple of party games for kids

Looking forward to it ... not so much the night before as I make sausage rolls and hungry caterpillar fruit sticks

Bucatini · 06/10/2019 07:38

We had a nice day out with family and the baby's godparents.

Eminybob · 06/10/2019 07:47

We had a bbq for family and friends for Ds1’s first birthday, but he’s summer born so obviously it isn’t possible with a winter baby.
Ds2 is 1 next month too and I have no idea what we are going to do, so following this thread with interest.

Mintypea5 · 06/10/2019 07:47

Cornishmum00 · 06/10/2019 07:54

We've baught her presants, 1 main (foam ballpit) and a few fisher price toys, iv orderd her a cake with her name and age and got some lovely foil balloons of ali express, just wasnt sure if thats enough? I feel like we should be doing something but at this time of year you never know the weather and most of our family work so it would be just us and the kids x

Our first birthday was yesterday and we went completely the opposite way of all other posters it seems as we didn’t have a big party (she is the only young child in the family so any party would be for the adults sake), just a cake and a few presents - her favourite so far is a wooden push along car so glad we didn’t spend tons on her as she has everything she needs right now anyway - and then took her to the park followed by a trolley trip at a supermarket (something she likes a lot more than me which is why we do online shopping!)

SoyDora · 06/10/2019 08:51

We’ve always just done a couple of presents, cake with the family and maybe a little trip out. DC3’s 1st birthday is the 6th Jan so won’t be doing much at all!

chocolatelover9 · 06/10/2019 08:57

I done a party at a soft play centre for my DD 1st birthday

1Lollypop · 06/10/2019 11:28

Thegirlhasnoname yeah i think we could do something like that, go feed the ducks at the park and a bit of shopping, let her choose a toy or treat, and cake in the afternoon when the kids are back from school, thanks for the idea :)

There's an event on locally that he'll love that we wanted to go to, so we booked that for his birthday. We're going out for dinner with the grandparents then to the event.

The Saturday after, I'm having family round. I'll make a cake, put some nibbles out and maybe crack out the wine. I've only got him 1 present that cost me £10, but he's got quite a pile amassed in the spare room for other people.

I will probably have more of a celebration when I clean the perfect prep for the last time and put it away.

Mamabear144 · 06/10/2019 22:06

I did an elmo/ sesame street themed birthday party at home as ds loves elmo.

1Lollypop · 07/10/2019 06:34

@Mamabear144 my dd also loves elmo haha we got her a danceing elmo from home bargains for 10 pounds, which online is 20-25 so i was very pleased about this, but thats put away for santa 😊

On the opposite end of the spectrum we did nothing. No cake, no real presents (he got some clothes he needed anyway, and two new books), no party. Don't feel pressured in to spending loads and loads, and personally I think it's important to acknowledge the party is for family/you, not the baby (otherwise you risk disappointment when DS shows utterly no interest in any of it).

1Lollypop · 07/10/2019 07:27

@divgirl2 yeah no party in this house, going to take her shopping and see if she takes a fancey to a toy in b and ms through the day and cake on the night with the kids, my kids dont realy do partys, ds is 7 in december and all he ever wants is the soft play bus to come to his house for him and his sisters so thats what he gets and a few presants, plus whatever he gets off family :)
