Hi.

Do you all just wait for baby to give you feeding cues? No matter how long ago they last ate?

LO is 5 weeks and eats well.

Thanks Smile

Congrats on your new baby! Glad to hear they're eating well Smile

I did on demand feeding but I would also consciously make sure to offer him a bottle if it had been 3 - 4 hours since he last ate. Around 12 weeks he began to set a little routine for himself of mostly wanting set amounts of (formula) milk every 3 - 4 hours. I would always offer extra milk if I saw cues though unless it was within an hour of finishing a full bottle. I learnt from experience that that just lead to a lot of vomiting!

Ok fab yeah thats what we are doing. Just wondered if thats the 'done' thing. we are combination feeding too.

She is about 11lb and eating between 3-5 oz of formula each time and then whatever she gets from me. Which is alot harder to gauge.

She was consistently sleeping after each feed. Now she is awake for quite a bit before she drops off ( especially during the day and when we initially try and put her down at night) i understand she isn't in any sort of routine yet, but i do wonder why things have changed? Did you find this?

Offering your baby food if you see a hunger cue is never a bad thing. If they don't want it they won't take it, you can rule out hunger and move onto the next thing to try to and settle them if needs be Smile Plus there are bound to be some days where they are more hungry than normal, especially with things like growth spurts. Keep on as you are!

I remember my son became more alert around 6 weeks old. He just started staying awake after his bottles and generally being more aware of his surroundings. I also remember the GP mentioning it at the 6 week check, saying how him sleeping all day would soon be a thing of the past. She wasn't wrong! So I think it's just a natural progression.
