Sore armpits HELP

Hi I'm a first time mum and new to mumsnet so forgive me for not using abbreviations :). My four month old has developed wet looking bright red saw armpit marks deep in her folds. I feel rubbish because I have only just noticed them. I'm guessing I have not been washing and drying them adequately. My problem is when I try to wash her armpits she fights against me she uses all her force to keep her arms by her side's and I'm finding it really difficult to get to her arm pits. I don't want to try to force her arms up as I'm worried I will hurt her. Any ideas how I can get her to lift her arms without such a commotion ?

Is she ticklish? You could try a little tickle while you're drying her. Make it into a relaxing game.

I'd give her a toy to play with - something small like a rubber duck that she will need to hold with both hands. Wipe gently with a sponge while she's in the bath. You can dry them with a hairdryer, just don't have it too hot, just warm, and keep the air moving around.

There is a cream you can buy in the chemist for about £1.60 that you can apply to her armpits and any other creases, neck folds etc, that works very quickly to get rid of the irritation. I can't remember the name but will post it later.

She was 9 weeks premature so she is only really acting like a 2 month old she doesn't react to being tickled and doesn't grab toys she just stares at them and occasionally moves her arms towards them .. She screams in the bath and always tenses up. I have been using sudacrem but if you could get the name of the cream your pharmacist recommended that would be great.

I find a combination of coconut oil and sudocream solves sore arm pits. I alternate them each day, but the oil can mark clothes so be conscious about the outfit! I can't remember the exact name of the oil I used but it's from Boots, in a purple pot and begins with k. You can also buy it on amazon.

I use it all over my DD body as she has lots of rolls Grin

Sorry for a slow update to this OP. The cream i use is Conotrane. It is brilliant. Lighter in texture than Sudocrem and it works extremely quickly.
