Should my one year old be wearing a vest?

My OH's Nan has made a comment that our little girl wasn't wearing a vest. On this day it was 19 degrees. She had a T-shirt and a cardi on.
The temperature is now 14/15 degrees and I'm wondering if a vest and long sleeve top would be better?

Anyone have any advice?
Thanks Smile

My little boy is only 5 months old, but I tend to use layers, so a vest, top, jumper, so if it gets warmer during the day, i can just take a layer of, rather than the whole outfit.

I’ve just put mine back into vests (22months). Haven’t worn them all summer but now it’s cold they’re back in them

I don't think there are any rules here. I still put my toddler in them but most of my friends don't. We use those reusable nappies with the funky designs and it's just easier to put a best over to stop her trying to undo them

I’ve always put a vest on my 22 month old unless heatwave weather. I normally layer her clothes so vest, T-shirt/top and a cardigan or jumper and adjust throughout the day depending on how hot she is, which is very rare as she’s mostly always cold like me!. I feel awful on days where I’ve sent her out without a vest for whatever reason, just feels wrong.

Thank you for your replies!!
I put her in a vest today. Just interesting to hear people's opinions xx

2 year old- but actually same kind of principal when she was 1- this time of year and temp, vest at night when temperatures drop. Long sleeved top and coat or thick jumper when out is plenty imo during the day. Vest and long sleeve is more a December- February for us

Yeah I always use a vest, keeps their middle warm in case top rises upSmile

Vests come off in may and go back on in November, according to my nana

Popper vests on any child of age/inclination to interfere with nappies!!! In summer would be in vest and trousers/shorts, winter more layers on top

TheSunAlsoRises · 04/10/2019 20:25

Mine also has a vest on for anything less than heatwave weather. I use the guide she should be wearing one more layer than me.

DS is ten months and a very warm baby, he just wore t shirts/short rompers all summer with a cardigan if needed over the top, he's been back in a vest since the weather turned, often just a vest with a long sleeved top/bodysuit over the top in the house, car or pram (with blanket or more recently cosy toes) and a jumper or cardigan over the top if its really cold, windy and raining.

Our DS is 10 months and just this week we went back to vests under his long sleeve tops. We debated t shirt versus vest but thought a vest wouldn't ride up so would keep him a little warmer.

sewinginscotland · 06/10/2019 22:12

The only time mine doesn't wear a vest is when it's so hot he's just wearing a nappy. In hot weather, he just wears a vest and shorts. Otherwise, it's underneath a top. He's 1yo and don't think it'll change for a while, his t-shirt rides up and shows his tummy.

But I see plenty of babies without vests on, it's what works for you.

Harrysmummy246 · 07/10/2019 14:48

Ds is 2. Yes his tops ride up but he's good at pulling them back down and really getting him in and out of them now is too much like hard work when it's a battle to grab him and dress him some days anyway. We have some for nights or if it does get really cold but I he is a ridiculously hot bod who never seems to feel cold.

They'll definitely not be daytime wear when we get nearer to not needing nappies either
