Car Seat Rule

Taking DS who's 12 weeks on holiday.
How long is the car seat rule? He will be 14 weeks when we go away.
I heard it's 1.5hrs then I heard it's 2hrs they can stay in the car seat.
The drive is a 3hr drive and I was planning to do 2hrs then stop for an hour then carry on.
DS car seat is one that fully reclines. I have never put him in the upright position in it.
Any ideas?
TIA

I would say it sounds okay what you are planning to do? Pretty sure we used to do longer car journeys than what they recommended as we also had the car seat which fully reclined. The risk is to the airway in normal car seats and being in that position for too long so you should be goodSmile

Is it a completely lie flat car seat? If so there are no limits.

Thank you!
The car seat is a Joie I-Level I-Size and reclines 157 degrees

I thought the car seat rule was half an hour!

We don't go out much but when we do, you bet we stop at every service station we find.

PixieDustt · 05/10/2019 02:27

@Couchbettato I think that is for newborns upto 1 month

Surely it’s no different than the baby sleeping in their crib or cot? The car seat lies flat so similar to a cot?

I thought it was two hours... We have a 6 month old and when he was newborn we'd stop just under 2 hours. I don't think there is a set amount of time you should stop for. But as everyone says of it's a reclining one shouldn't be a problem.

When my DD was newborn we did a 2 hour drive and it was suggested by the health visitor that we stop after an hour to stretch her out a bit.
I wouldn’t say 14 weeks is newborn, I kind of think up to 6 weeks is newborn, possibly 12 weeks at a push so I’d think that at 14 weeks what you’ve suggested is fine. Just keep an eye on how hot/cold she’s getting as it can feel quite different in the back compared to the front
