Baby weight!

I’ve just had my 8+1 baby weighed who is now 14lb and on the 91st percentile (his dad is 6’3) I am formula feeding and the HV said she wasn’t concerned but not to let him get bigger....when I asked how I can prevent that she had no answer other than not allowing him to finish his feeds?! I feel really upset that I have done something wrong and fed him too much or allowed him to have too much and this may cause him weight problems in future?!

What was the birth weight? Tbh I wouldn't worry just now. If you are letting him stop when he's had enough and arent trying to get him to take extra then you are doing everything right. You cant put an 8 week old baby on a diet

He weighed 8lb 2 - well once he does stop feeding - usually only because he falls asleep - then goes back to the bottle sometimes 30mins later, should I not allow that?

I am interested what others say, as I am in a similar boat. Had my 6+5 baby weighed the other day and he was 99th percentile! Again she said not to worry "yet" but keep a eye and try and reduce feeds if possible (eg pat and reassure at night rather than feed). I genuinely don't know how I'd do that, he would just scream if I didn't give him enough food! Been feeling very guilty...

Interesting. My baby was drinking loads of milk and i assumed hungry. But when i dropped his feeds, due to sickness rather than weight, he has been fine. Hv said sometimes they drink because they are comforting rather than hungry.

Glad it isn’t just me!

I just do not know how I would currently “drop” a feed he is sucking his hands and eats the bottle so I guess is hungry and like @hodgepodge21said he just screams 🥴

You could maybe try and see if a dummy would satisfy him when he wakes up after his feed? And if that’s doesn’t work I would just carry on feeding him and give him what he wants, he will know when he’s had enough. And don’t worry about weight problems I’m the future, just be happy he’s putting on good weight! If he did end up being a little chubby when he’s older it’s easy to get little ones to exercise when they’re out and about!
