What do you use to give your 1 yr old milk?

DD is 15 months and loves a big bottle of milk in the morning and before bed.

Currently we're using the MAM bottles I've used since day 1. I'm keen to get rid of those and sell them. I've got 8 of them, but only 2 are needed so they're just taking up space!

When DS was this age I used one of the no-spill Nuby bottles but DD will not have it at all!

Any recommendations?

Dr browns beakers or tommee tipee free flow beaker

INeedNewShoes · 01/10/2019 15:52

DD used a Munchkin 360 from around 12m for her milk and still does now at 26m.

Munchkin 360, but moved onto an open cup quite quickly. Much better for teeth. Just can’t have them in bed, but I switched up the bedtime routine so we had bath, stories in my bed with a cup of milk, teeth and then bed. I didn’t want dd reliant on a bottle of milk to get to sleep, as I’s just managed to night wean from bf.

Use a sippy cup. No reason for a teat after 1. You'll thank yourself later.

PhantomErik · 01/10/2019 15:58

I moved to a tommy tippee beaker when each dc turned 1.

Clangus00 · 01/10/2019 16:01

A munchkin 360 here too.
I think you need to get rid of all the bottles to avoid the temptation. If she drinks it, she drinks it.

Rachelover60 · 01/10/2019 16:02

Used to give milk or any drink in a cup. I wouldn't worry though, babies let you know when they are ready. I remember mine sitting at the table in his little chair and taking a glass of water and drinking it - spilling some of course but after that he always drank from a cup.

CremeDeSudo · 01/10/2019 16:09

I have a 360 so that's an option actually, hadn't considered that..

I don't think the sippy cups will be big enough (she often complains when she finishes her 9oz bottle!)

A bottle here, he will only take water from a cup, put milk in it and he looks at you like youve gone crazy!

SoyDora · 01/10/2019 16:13

We used the munchkin weighted straw cups after a year.

SoyDora · 01/10/2019 16:14

Can you just refill after drinking if she’s not had enough?

butteryellow · 01/10/2019 16:17

DS1 - we went through every cup, until we settled on a tommee-tippee straw thing, which he used for the next 5 years (almost exclusively - although a glass with a straw in restaurants was also OK).

DS2 - was quaffing from a resin stemmed glass from 7 months, and only uses straws if they're curly ones.

Try different things - every child is individual (I only have 2, and none of my assumptions about either of them panned out until they were much older and I'd got to know them)

butteryellow · 01/10/2019 16:18

(I say quaffing, because whilst some went in, a lot went on the floor too... it was very drunken middle ages style)

rollrollroll · 01/10/2019 16:22

13 months here and still using MAM bottles for the 2 he has a day. He drains them in about 2 minutes so I'm not overly worried about teeth damage because he has teeth brushed afterwards.

I'm not sure how long to continue bottles for tho

rollrollroll · 01/10/2019 16:23

Posted too soon!

I'm not sure how long to continue bottles for though because my elder dc was a bottle refuser from about 11 months and hated milk of any kind. This one absolutely loves his milk though

calmalamadown · 01/10/2019 16:26

Mine is nearly 2 and now uses the bottle to get to sleep 😬 but she sleeps so I'm too scared to change anything.

CremeDeSudo · 01/10/2019 16:36

When I tried a different bottle a couple of months ago she had a complete meltdown and refused it! This time I showed her the milk going in so she knew what was going on. She had some, but not as much as normal and then realised the MAM bottles were still around and refused the new one again! (Honestly, you don't realise how clever they are!). I'm not worried about teeth or sleep associations, it's just because I'd like to sell on the MAM bottles!

DS was much more easy going. He had a no spill bottle at this age, then a beaker. He had milk at bedtime until around 3.5yrs and in the morning until he was around 4!

Well the 360 didn't go well! Outright refused, gesturing and fighting to get downstairs. Poured it into a MAM bottle, downed it sweet as a nut. Sigh.

Can’t you just sell 6 bottles and keep the 2 you need?

Caterina99 · 01/10/2019 19:46

Just do the cup. She’ll complain for a night or 2 and then it’ll be fine and the bottles will be gone. She’ll probably drink less milk too from a cup. She will always prefer the bottle if it’s an option so if you want to stop using them then you need to just go for it

I like the 360 ones for milk as they are the easiest to clean. Straw cups are a nightmare with milk

HarrietM87 · 01/10/2019 19:49

My 17 month old has had a tommy tippee free flow since I stopped bf at 13 months. Water at meals has always been in an open cup.

MileyWiley · 01/10/2019 19:55

Sippy cup or 360 by 1.

MatchyMatch · 01/10/2019 20:30

Depending on exactly how stubborn yours is you could consider buying a sprout teat for your mam bottle - they sell two different 'sprouts' for transitioning away from bottles. Not the cheapest, about £5 each iirc but then the rest of the bottle looks the same so they get used to the new teat and you can transition slowly... It's that or cold turkey imo Grin

CremeDeSudo · 01/10/2019 20:37

Aha Matchy thank you! I think this could work! They do the teat and bottle for £7 on Amazon so I've ordered one and it's coming tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

The ones I have are a set, so wanted to bundle them up. She's such a bloody madam about this kind of thing. She's always been particular about food and how she's fed too.
