Just to add, I have a 15 month old dd and considering finding a homeopath for us both

Bunkum. Waste of money. Has never been proven beyond placebo. You might as well just buy a load of sherbet pips and pretend they’re medicinal.

PurpleDaisies · 29/09/2019 16:05

Homeopathy is non-scientific nonsense.

Homeopathy - thoughts??

Anybody tried it & found it didn't help?

OP posts:
PurpleDaisies · 29/09/2019 16:14

What exactly are you hoping it will “help” with?

EatsFartsAndLeaves · 29/09/2019 16:16

It's not real, it's made up nonsense. Don't waste your time and money.

CarWreck · 29/09/2019 16:21

I tried it and I got worse. I thought the philosophy of 'like treating like' made sense, but it was for something head-related, and I later found out the treatment was based on walnut, the homeopath logic (back in the day) being that a walnut is 'like' a brain.

It sounds like a joke but you can google it. Bear in mind there's no active part of the walnut left in the homeopathic preparation, so whether walnuts are actually good for your health is by-the-by.

Avoid.

I suppose something to make our immune systems stronger. In the last 3 weeks dd has struggled with a cold/cough, then throat infection, then a sickness bug. So I'm sick to the back teeth of illness and desperate to avoid where poss!

I couldn't be more careful with hygiene. Thing is, I love taking her here there & everywhere, getting her outdoors, playgroups, classes etc. Don't want to stop all that but we seem to be attracting germs somehow.

Thank you for all your opinions x

The best thing to do is a really good diet and wash your hands regularly and properly.

Homeopathy will do nothing at all for your immune system.

CarWreck · 29/09/2019 16:25

That's very natural for a 1-year-old! She'll be building up her immune system with that. My DC got everything age 1-2 then has barely been ill since.

Homeopathy isn't herbal remedies, if that was what you were thinking it was.

Yestermo · 29/09/2019 16:30

I am very into alternative medicine and use acupuncture, osteopathy and massage a lot. I have read a lot scientific research and homeopathy has been disproved beyond a shadow of a doubt. Things that can naturally boost immune system: good diet, exercise, having pets, a bit of dirt and things that relax you.,

AnneKipanki · 29/09/2019 16:32

No .

Boobiliboobiliboo · 29/09/2019 16:32

Sambucol has been proven to boost the immune system. DD definitely gets fewer sniffles when we use it through the winter. There is probably a baby version.

yesok · 29/09/2019 16:33

@carwreck that's a relief to hear. I do sometimes genuinely think I must be doing something wrong for her to get all these horrible bugs. She's actually coped with it better than I have!!
I haven't done much research on homeopathy. I own a business & a customer said finding a good homeopath was the best thing she ever did.

AlunWynsKnee · 29/09/2019 16:33

Homeopathy is nonsense. Herbal medicine is not nonsense.
There are things like ecinacea (sp?) that can help along with vitamins.

yesok · 29/09/2019 16:34

@Boobiliboobiliboo thank you I'll have a look at that

It’s not a popular opinion here, but homeopathy was like an off switch for my dds colic, and later her teething.

MrsTerryPratchett · 29/09/2019 16:36

Honey, lemon, good food, exercise, and getting sick with normal colds will help. Kids get sick and your "couldn't be more careful with hygiene" worries me. Anti-bac on every surface is a bad idea.

Homeopathy is 100% utter bollocks. Snake oil bullshit. Don't line the pockets of charlatans.

lazylinguist · 29/09/2019 16:38

I couldn't be more careful with hygiene.

Maybe that's the problem. If you're a clean freak and anti-baccing everything in sight, that's not good for your immune system ir hers.

lazylinguist · 29/09/2019 16:38

*or

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 29/09/2019 16:40

Kids get sick. That's how their immune systems get stronger 🤷‍♀️

MrsTerryPratchett · 29/09/2019 16:41

homeopathy was like an off switch for my dds colic, and later her teething.

There are reasons you think this. Placebo effect is just one. Reversion to the mean is another. Sunken costs another. What isn't a reason is it doing any good because it doesn't. Many double blind studies have shown as much. sciencebasedmedicine.org/homeopathy-failing-randomized-controlled-trials-since-1835/
