My daughter is scared of pooing and weeing without her nappy - help!

My dd is 2.5, introduced her to the potty at around 20 months. She will sit on it for short periods of time with or without her nappy on. I have been trying to get her to poo or wee on it, but she gets really scared, and is holding it all in. She then gets really really upset if she goes on the floor, even though I praise her and tell her it doesn't matter. She has a new brother who is nearly 3 months old, and is generally a very confident and independent child. She seems to have taken to the new baby brilliantly, but I suspect this potty problem may be partly to do with his arrival. I'd love some advice - my instinct says not to force the issue, but I am worried about her being scared, and wonder how I should tackle this. Any advice would be really gratefully accepted!

Personally I wouldn't say she sounds ready. It's so, so much easier if you wait for it to come from them rather than being something you train them to do.

Her new sibling is still very, very new and many children do regress as I'm sure you know; they don't want to be the grown up one, it is scary. I think maybe her fears are being transferred to the potty?

If this was me I'd stick her in pull ups and try again in a few months.

Yes, makes sense - hopefully she'll get a bit less scared of it all!
