so dd2 has been removing her nappy and asking to go the toilet a couple of time in the last couple of weeks. She has pooped and wee-ed on the loo a few times. when she gets up in the morning her nappy isn't wet and then she does a wee on the loo. she tells me when she is about to poo so we have been doing that on the loo.
To be honest I was trying to hold off on the training thing as felt I wouldn' be able to manage it just now but she decided yesterday afternoon to go for it. I COULD not keep her nappy on her and she did a poo and two weeson the potty wihout any prompting and then sat occasionally and did anohter wee when she had been prompted. we also had 2 small wees on the floor and a little bit in her poants and then the rest in the potty.

she has dora pants which were bought for her when she did her third oo on the toilet. she had been told she would get them and yesterday kept on asking for them to be a big girls so the nappies went and the pants came on yesterday afternoon and think we did ok. she is 2 and 4 months. this morning she was up and playing quietly with dd1 so did her morning wee in her nappy because I didn't get up and take her to the loo but she is in her pants now and dry sofar but nothing done on the potty.
I figure that I need to ignore accidents, gently remind to try the potty reguarly and priase for sitting on and reward for wee and poos on the potty.
I really hadn't planned to do this so feel a little lost and worried I will never be able to leave the house again.
can't remember what happened RIGHT at the start ith dd1.

So if you've got through all my waffling [gbrin]
whats the best way to deal with wee on carpet??
thanks

I remind DS1 that he ought to use the potty when he wee's on the floor. Mop up with an old Tea towel, pop it in soak and in the wash. Get carpet cleaners in at the end of potty training!!
We have a set back atm, when we went away 2 weeks ago I put him back in nappies cos it was easier at my grandmas house

Trinityrhino · 12/08/2007 09:11

thanks bug, how old is he??
how long have you been doing it?

2 and a half next week. Went bottomless for a couple of months indoors until he got the hang of where to wee & poo. Then a few weeks of pants, then trousers. I did get to the point where we were going out and about without nappies as he was so good. but as I said, he's regressed a little and my confidence has also been rocked.

burstingbug · 12/08/2007 09:19

Oh initially started in the new year. We did it really slowly and casually.
Shosha has a good method.

I got pet wee cleaner from the pet shop for the wee on carpet. apparently it has enzymes in it which breaks it all down.

Loads of kitchen roll/towels too

I used chocolate buttons as incentives. Not eveyone will agree but for DD1 they worked much better than stickers.

My DD hated any negatives and reacted well to praise. very hard to do though....

Trinityrhino · 12/08/2007 10:24

thanks funky, oooo hadn't thought of pet wee cleaner....great idea

Definitely rewards - the first time with DS we had to reward him for just putting pull-ups on instead of nappies. And then for sitting on the potty. But he soon got the hang of it. Just keep remembering to prompt her to have a go, every half hour or so, for the first few days. We had stickers for actually doing wees and poos, plus chocolate buttons for those, and for any other things. WE also had books to read him on the potty, so he would sit there for longer. Good luck.

(oh yes, and stock up on Febreze)

And buy really cheap pants to start with because if they have a poo accident that is too grim to clean you dont mind throwing them away.

So, how has today gone?

well she spent all day in the bgarden in pants and a t-shirt and although she sat on the potty quite a bit she only did one wee on it and she had alot of wet pants

still trying, not going back to nappies, fingers crossed it will get better

Lots of sympathy but no helpful advice from me as I'm in the same situation. Dd (23mo)decided about 10 days ago that she wasn't wearing nappies anymore. Most of the time she's okay but she's not keen on being reminded to sit on the potty and prefers to take herself off to a quiet corner and poo in her pants [grr].

DS1 also chose when he started training but he had 2 accidents the first day then that was it, everything happened on the potty or toilet. I'm getting very discouraged by the 3 pairs of wet pants a day but just as I think 'nope, she's going back into nappies' she has a great day.

Wiping up wee is crap!

FunkyGlassSlipper · 13/08/2007 17:42

Tinity - I started off with no pants and DD clicked straight away. Took a bit of practice to transition to pants but you could try that at home.

Trinityrhino · 13/08/2007 22:07

thanks funky BUT I used the 'you can have dora pants' thing to encourage her to yse the toilet an now she is obsessed with her pants...LOVES them to bits and wont be without them. I don't mind and I think the difference between nappy and thin oants is big enough to get her going.
She now wants bug pants not entirely sure what that means...

today was a great day actually, she asked to go to the loo twice and actually wee-ed both times and then the other times that I took her she 'made' {grin] aswell most times.

We had one accident when at my friends but luckily she was standing in the garden lol

feeling good about it all, very proud of her
