Toddler screaming the place down during his milk

Hi all, not sure if I'm worrying over nothing or this is just a phase or something more. My 20 month old DS still has a bottle of cows milk in the morning when he wakes up and one in the evening before bed. He drinks out of sippy cups or cups with spouts the rest of the time, but for some reason refuses all cups in favour of a bottle morning and night time. Just to give the full picture, he's a fab eater and we've got no concerns that he's drinking enough water, hes very happy to drink and always has a cup on the go, whatever he's doing.

The past couple of days though, when he's had his morning or evening bottle, he's had it for a few minutes, got maybe a third of the way down it and then given it back to me, and proceeded to scream the place down, for a good five minutes or so. Usually he drinks 3/4 or more of the bottle. Last night he was eventually consoled to sleep, but wouldn't take the bottle back at all. This morning he did the same so I offered him the milk in a sippy cup instead but he just pushed it away and kept screaming. He sounds absolutely desolate when he's crying, and I'm at a loss as to what is wrong.

I thought maybe it's not coming out fast enough for him but I've tried him with all kinds of different teats/spouts/cups for his morning and evening bottle and he won't accept them at all, just the bottle teat. He wont even try it if he sees it's not got the usual teat on it. As I said he drinks fine through the day out of a variety of bottles and cups. If that's the case do I persist with offering him milk from a cup, and does anyone have any suggestions on what might work to get him to accept it?

I also wondered if he no longer wants a bottle, but he's very quick to ask for it if he sees it and he tries to drink it, but then ends up getting distressed. Do I try putting him down/getting him up without it?

Has anyone had this before or got any suggestions? I hate seeing my little one so upset, and he doesn't have the words yet to tell me what the problem is!

Could his teeth and jaw have developed more and made it feel different? Or is he teething?

You'll get no judgement from me regarding him having the odd bottle. Both mine did similar!

He could well be teething, there's plenty of drool and he's putting his hand in his mouth a lot. Maybe some teething gel before his bottle might help.

Yes or something very cold to rub on there. I found a spoon right out of the freezer was good. I'd rub it on their gums for them.

I remember my DS did the same around this age! He’s just over two now. It was definitely teething for me, I found some gel or those little sachet powders just before helped. Must be something about the bottle teat and sore teeth/gums not being a good combo.

The big back teeth are probably starting to move down. This drives them crazy. It can start and stop for a good while. He might be hitting the teat off his sore gums
