dd got chicken pox really bad, got spots even inside her mouth - didn't realise u could, been trying to soothe her mouth with ice pops - not working, also got them on her scalp and obviously can't get calamine their either. Any tips how to soothe her and how long is she contagious for???

she is contagious until all te spots have crusted over.

feel for you as its hard enough to comfort them as it is never mind in this heat!

Try cool/lukewarm baths.

Poriton is supposed to help wit the itching.

there are soooooo many posts on here about this CMV if you search, you'll be blasted with tips and advice.
In my experience, what worked for DD who also got it badly (DS got off very lightly ) was porridge oats, wrapped in a muslin and held under the running tap into the bath and Rhus Tox homeopathic remedy.

I hope she feels better really soon.

ps. a friend of mine who is a Paed said to be careful when using calamine that you don't spread any infection. It might be that none of your DD's are infected but just to be careful.

calamine and aqueous cream from chemist, keep in fridge , helps cools, calm and mositurise the skin
lots of calpol, cool drinks, lollies etc
Usually about 5-6 days before spots crust over so infectious until that happens

my GP said 5 days from when they first appear is the time that I needed to keep DD away from other people. It's my understanding that they are infectious before they appear as far as passing the chicken pox to another child so i guess the 5 day rule is just to be safe (DS's school had the same 5 day rule).
Take some comfort though CMV from my experience with DD. She was covered from head to foot, had them in her mouth, her eye, her private bits, everywhere. But they healed up wonderfully quickly (was that the Rhus Tox? - who knows??)

Bicarb in the bath too, that reduces the itching.
