Umm wash them?

Seriously that's horrid. You need to give them a 60degree wash, if poss with biological washing powder then another one with non-bio to get rid of the residue of the first lot of powder.

Don't tumble dry them though - I have these nappies and they shrink badly unless you put them on cool.

mistlethrush · 10/08/2007 22:14

We use nappy sanitiser in wash - never had any problem, but this time of year, hang them on washing line for good bake and blow in the sun

liahgen · 10/08/2007 22:19

thanks ladies, i'll try the bio then non bio, i washed them when i received them but only on a cool non bio wash, i'll give em a blast of heavy duty washing, lol. Thanks for the tip bout tumble, i prob would have done that if it had been raining.

Someone suggested vinegar??? anyone know anything about that?

Vinegar might help but honestly bio washing powder has the same enzymes and you can just buy some cheapo stuff from the supermarket and save the rest for cleaning dirty surfaces etc - you can make a paste and clean your cooker with it and everything!

liahgen · 10/08/2007 22:29

tesco for me in morn then, can you really use it to clean cooker? won't your food taste soapy?

OP posts:
whomovedmychocolate · 10/08/2007 22:32

Hahahah - you wash it off afterwards you daft woman! But it eats the burnt on grease away so you put it on, ignore it all day and then wipe it off with kitchen towel or if its really grim, a spatula. Then just rinse it with soapy water and you have a sparkly oven (and clean non wee smelling nappies)

I had a really funny experience with our nappies. Suddenly one day they smelled horrible (the clean ones) took me ages to work out the cat had wee'd on them

Was convinced that I had put the dirty ones back in the basket (or more likely DH had!)

I blame sleep deprivation.

liahgen · 10/08/2007 22:39

lol bout your cat, don't have a cat so definately not washed thoroughly before being posted. ~Lovely nappies though, very white and soft.

Am gonna try the cooker thing, impress dh with my anthea turner moment. He'll probably think i've got a cleaner.

Ugh how can they be sold like that??
I cringe when I see ads on the nappy lady selling stained stuff and still want decent prices for it!
I would put it in a hot wash with prewash, extra wash and extra rinsing buttons all pressed. Use bio for all the enzymes to work at the odour.
Then hang outside on a nice windy day.
I clean the top of my cooker, the inside of my butler sink, and the bath, with bio washing powder.

liahgen · 10/08/2007 22:49

i am converted to bio for cleaning my kitchen now, reading all this. Can't wait to get started, plus, lovely smelling nappies.
cheers ladies,

night night. x

Have just discovered that bread-soda in a prewash is also very good for getting out smells.

whomovedmychocolate · 11/08/2007 21:05

Oh thank goodness, Flibbertyjibbet, I thought I was the only one with my bio washing powder!

I can't believe people sell stained nappies either, it's just icky. I know rationally it's fine and perhaps if it's for your own children it's okay to share but to sell them - it's like selling used mooncups!

whomovedmychocolate · 11/08/2007 21:06

My MiL - how did you find this out? (I have visions of you putting knickers in a breadmaker now)

Flibbertyjibbet · 11/08/2007 22:33

MyMil, I love your name!!

Today in my local bargain shop I found .9kg boxes of sainsbury's own brand bio washing powder for 50p!!! FIFTY PENCE!!

So at this very moment there is a butler sink full of bio solution and as soon as the kids got out of the bath I bunged some in there and filled the bath up.

I am considering making a big bucket up tomorrow and scrubbing it all over my backyard!!

(DP thinks I am barking cos I cleared the shelf of the powder and staggered in with... 34 boxes....but they are only little boxes, and it is a years supply of washing powder for £17 so I am very happy

Used mooncups URURURURRURUGHGHGHHGG.

nappyzone · 11/08/2007 22:38

34!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!! Was it a well known bargain store - im there!!!

Flibbertyjibbet · 11/08/2007 22:48

THERE'S NONE LEFT!!!!
Its all under my stairs!!

FlameBatfink · 11/08/2007 22:49

That really is nasty - wee smelling seconds

I'm still fuming - had some dyed orders on the line, and some bastard lit a bloody bonfire whilst I was out - came back and they were stinking Had to rewash!

nappyzone · 12/08/2007 08:56

i have had some grim seconds which i have chucked as they made me wretch... oh dear about the nappies flame!

MyMILisDoloresUmbridge · 12/08/2007 10:17

whomovedmychocolate, I googled smelly cloth nappies and got that from an Australian cloth nappy site
(((ponders on possible changing name to KnickersInABreadmaker)))))

FlameBatfink · 12/08/2007 10:29

That would be a GREAT name change!

whomovedmychocolate · 12/08/2007 21:01

I do like the sound of knickersinabreadmaker. For holidays you could become Santasknickersinabreadmaker, valentines: frillyredknickersinabreadmaker etc. When pregnant buninabreadmaker - the possibilities are endless

KnickersInABreadmaker · 13/08/2007 00:28

There, how's that?

FlameBatfink · 13/08/2007 07:42

pERFECT!

liahgen · 13/08/2007 12:06

lol, Thanks ladies for all your help, this thread makes me laugh every time i look at it now, you ladies are hilarious, i have it on watch now.

The wee nappies were ok, i had some REALLLLY bad ones off an unnamed lady couple weeks ago, off here!!!! Got a refund but haven't returned the nappies yet, tbh, i wouldn't even have recycled them myself, baaad. (at this point would like to put in a sicky smiley!!)

Keep it up girls, x

Liahgen -sorry we smooshed your thread with discussions about knickers in electric devices! But glad you are rid of the stench anyway!
