What age did child stop being able to nap out and about

Interested to hear if there seems to be a general age when children stop being able to nap on the go. Obviously it's different for all kids. So I'm talking mainly about pushchair but I guess carrier too. Do people find it goes through a bad patch and then they start again when they get past the extra nosey stage?

Mine is still happy napping anywhere at 1 year old, but I'm curious to see what others say. How much longer have I got before I'm housebound for naps?!!

Mine is 2 years old and will still happily nap in the buggy.

CherryPavlova · 20/09/2019 22:38

About ten. They often fell asleep on longer car journeys up until about then. In pushchair until they gave up using it around three.

I'm 35 and I'll happily nap on a train/plane/car I'm not driving!

Mine hasn't been great at buggy naps for few months now and he's 18 months. Car naps are still fine.

Celebelly · 20/09/2019 22:47

Hmm my DD will nap in the buggy if she's really tired but mostly she likes to be awake and see what's going on. She's 7 months. She sleeps in car reliably. Don't think she'd sleep in the carrier any more. She's far too nosey Grin Perhaps when the novelty of the world wears off she'll nap more when out again.

That said, I don't let it affect what we do day to day anyway. We do things at different times every day so her naps are all over the place as it is.

I can’t remember the last time my DS had a nap in his pushchair Confused it’s super unhelpful if I need to go out for the day so just have to time naps for car journeys now or if not he goes without a nap not a lot I can do. He is 19months now but like I say I think it was well before he turned 1.

LadyJaneGrey56 · 21/09/2019 07:50

Around 2 for buggy naps. Once he was walking confidently he'd rarely stay in it anyway.
Car naps were a bit later, probably rare by 4 but still had the very occasional sleep if he needed it around 6/7.

LulaLandry · 21/09/2019 07:51

Mine is 3.5 and still will. In fact he got better at it the older he got, as a baby he wouldn't nap in a pram for love nor money.

Rosebud1302 · 21/09/2019 08:42

Interesting, lots of varied responses as expected!

Ok new question - for those that do/did nap in the pushchair, did you find you had to push them somewhere quiet to get them to sleep or would they just fall asleep wherever you were? I am so envious when I see children falling asleep without being pushed around quiet residential roads for an hour first 😂 again interested to know if this improves once past the nosey stage!

Again, the older mine got the easier it was to get him to drop off absolutely anywhere.

Strongecoffeeismydrug · 21/09/2019 09:08

All 3 of my kids totally dropped any daytime napping at around their first birthday!
Me on the other hand I'm
Old and could still nap anywhere 🤣

Minai · 21/09/2019 21:55

No pram naps unless absolutely exhausted since about 14 months.
Naps fine in the car

Mummoomoocow · 21/09/2019 21:59

No pram naps anywhere, walking or not, after any length of time or quiet, since 16 months. Must be at home, in his bed. Little bastard ☹️

Expressedways · 21/09/2019 22:06

Mine was great when she was tiny, got a bit awkward around 1 and would fight it and nap poorly/not at all in the stroller. However, once she started walking properly and dropped the morning nap she was so exhausted she’d pass out just about anywhere regardless of noise! She’s now 2 years and 3 months and still does 2 hours in the stroller.
