You really don't need that stuff all you need an IKEA Antilop chair and just feed them what you eat at mealtimes. Purees and seperate meals is just pointless they can chew food straight away

Bellsofstclements · 20/09/2019 21:23

Ikea antilop highchair
Any sort of pelican bib - but if you're at home it's easy just to strip them off anyway so less washing
Cheap pvc tablecloth or shower curtain for the floor. Think we had one from Dunelm.
Recommend you get plenty of flannels for the endless face and hand washing.

Rarfy · 20/09/2019 21:24

I started off like this then quickly realised, especially for first tastes, the stuff in the pouches is the same as you would make and much much easier.

I bought little pots, blender and so on. All you need are some decent spoons and a highchair. It's surprising how short a space of time the puree part lasts.

Ikea - high chair, bibs, plates, bowls, cup and cutlery. Shower curtain to cover the carpet.

Rarfy · 20/09/2019 21:25

Not sure where you are but lots of shops sell splash mats for £1. The my babiee range of highchairs have matching splash mats available if you want to push the boat out.

I cba putting my splash mat down its as easy to hoover really.

KellyHall · 20/09/2019 21:27

Poundland sell great little pots that are cheap and don't leak.

We have that Ikea highchair too. We don't live near an Ikea but small businesses sell them on eBay.

Expressedways · 20/09/2019 21:27

The Ikea children’s department has literally everything you need. Their bargain high chair is the best, they have great bibs with sleeves, spoons, bowls. Don’t feed on the carpet if you can avoid it as that’s just asking for trouble! I didn’t bother freezing as it’s not difficult to steam a few veg and mash with a fork or resort to Ella’s kitchen when in a real rush but if you’re really committed an ice cube tray works perfectly (also found at Ikea).

jackparlabane · 20/09/2019 21:28

Kitchen scissors and a fork. Make your meals into small bits. Also Greek yoghurt is great for sticking stuff together if your child wants everything on a spoon.

BertieBotts · 20/09/2019 21:31

There is a set by nuk/annabel karmel on amazon I found quite good with a silicone ice cube tray, pots, spoons, a little masher set and some ice lolly mould which are great for summer, sensory play and teething.

I got the ikea Antilop and I don't love it. It's ok but I preferred the Fisher price healthy care booster I had for my older son. Worked for him from 4 months to 3 years, takes up little space, cheap, easy to clean and adjust and the tray can come off while they're sitting in it.

Tommee tippee free flow cups are the only kind you need.

Also get the baby led weaning book!

ColaFreezePop · 20/09/2019 21:32

The stuff in the pouches is for when you are out and about or suddenly caught short, not for everyday use. The fruit ones have tonnes of sugar in them. Likewise the supermarket baby snacks including most rice cakes have too much sugar and salt in them.

As PP said IKEA or a large supermarket like Asda. If you have an Amazon prime membership then order random things from there like bibs though. cups I actually got from a large Boots.

Use a sharp knife and a fork to cut things into pieces and/or mash things up. No need to buy a specialist blender.

Shmithecat2 · 20/09/2019 21:33

IKEA for chair and bibs/coverall, feeding spoons, bowls etc. Shower curtain for the floor.. if you want to use/make purees, something like these are handy. Ella's Kitchen pouches are handy for travel, gran and go etc. Enjoy it and don't stress. Whether you go the BLW or puree way, or a mix of the two, it really makes no difference. Your baby will let you know what they prefer.

PuffHuffle5 · 20/09/2019 21:38

High chair, muslin/bib, bowl, food to go in bowl, spoon - what more do you need? Confused

blueskiesbrighteyes · 20/09/2019 21:52

This is all great, thanks so much everyone for your advice Smile

Bibado bib if you want to keep clothes/baby clean. Cheeky wipes (bamboo) for hands and faces. Some spoons. Bamboo bamboo plates/bowls from Amazon. We did baby led weaning so didn’t bother with puree equipment.

We bought the stokke Tripp trapp, I have used the ikea one and much prefer the Tripp trapp. Also we have the chicco pocket snack chair for out and about. It’s so much better than using restaurant high chairs which are massive and rarely have a tray.

OnTheBayou · 20/09/2019 22:01

@ColaFreezePop none of the baby rice cakes or fruit pouches I've ever seen have any added salt or sugar. Sainsbury's, Ella's kitchen, Organix etc. The fruit pouches contain naturally occurring sugar in the same way strawberries do 🤷🏻‍♀️

ColaFreezePop · 20/09/2019 22:06

@OnTheBayou naturally occurring sugar in processed foods is normally apple juice. Research how healthy apple and other fruit juice is. And no it isn't the same as eating a piece of fruit.

OnTheBayou · 20/09/2019 22:20

@ColaFreezePop none of the fruit pouches contain apple juice or similar. Just purred fruits and a tiny bit of lemon juice. Almost all baby snacks in supermarkets apart from rusks have no added refined sugar, and none of the rice cakes/crisps/pouches/snacks etc have any salt in. Maybe they did years ago but they don't now.
